We just purchased it and I believe it is the stock factory exhaust. Does anyone know if we can replace exhaust with another one to quiet it down (to sound like a normal car exhaust)? Thanks

Take a look at the muffler yourself. The factory muffler is a very long muffler, like 20-24 inches, most aftermarket louder mufflers are 12-15 inches, if it's the latter you can have the stock exhaust put back on for a quieter sound. If it's factory and try a quieter exhaust, you are doing more harm than good.

That muffler shouldn't be making too much noise if it's stock. You can replace the muffler to get a quieter one for sure.

ask a muffler shop to look at it, if it's stock, leave it, if it's not ask them to put a stock muffler on it. even the stock muffler will be louder than a car, though. mostly because that big V8 under the hood needs to breathe!

it might have a leak in the eqhaust. that will make it sound louder.

i know this because i use to have a 02 durango with 5.9 liter engine. it wasn't loud at all unless you stomped on the gas pedal.

You need to tell your wife that is the normal sound of a vehicle with a 5.9 liter engine in it.

putting a "quieter" exaust on it will "choke" it down. think of it this way... plug your nose and breath through a coffee stir stick from the gas station. quieting your exast results in restictions which will cost you fuel milage and repair bill for the strain on the motor
