That's an innate instinct from when dogs were wild and slept wherever they could find a place to lie down. By walking around in circles they would fluff down the straw or whatever they had found to sleep on.

They are tamping down the ground to make a comfortable resting spot. Other animals in the wild do this as well, and it is a holdover from their days before domestication. One of my dogs does this, and sometimes pushes the blankets around with his paws, as well.

My dogs also do this ! I think it's because they don't have hands to fix the surface their going to lay down on ,so they try , with this method to make it as comfortable as possible. At least that's my theory, LOL!

It is a throwback to instincts.
Wolves sleep out in the wild, and they need a flat place to sleep. It's hard to be comfortable with things sticking in you, right?
They circle to make a flat place in the underbrush to lay down comfortably.

We had a miniature poodle with the comparable concern. We had him placed down at 17 years. It replace into the toughest element I ever had to do. i replace into 17, and that i replace into the guy who had to make the determination because of the fact he replace into my canines. My mum and dad have been given him whilst i replace right into a touch one, and we grew up jointly. Boaz replace into my ultimate chum. I felt it replace into extra desirable to end his suffering than to postpone it because of the fact i replace into being egocentric and did no longer want to enable him circulate. i understand you probably did no longer somewhat get to have that plenty time which includes your canines, yet English Bulldogs are services to various well being issues, and don't stay very long at first. So, somewhat, don't sense undesirable. It replace into an inevitable actuality, and your canines is in a extra desirable place. You def. did the main appropriate element, and you gave her the final element any canines along with her challenge could have. You stayed with the aid of her component, comforted her, and enjoyed her only as she could you if the shoe have been on the different foot. I wish you the final, and sturdy success with any canines you have interior the destiny.

In the wild they had to find a place to sleep wich was usually in tall grass. they had to pat down the grass. so they go around in the circle. It is the instinct

It makes them dizzy enough to just lay down and sleep that much easier.
