Actually, if you bend your head back, the passage through your mouth lines up pretty well into a straight (but narrow) pipe down which you can push a sword (hopefully not sharpened in case you slip). And the trick is not to swallow while you're doing this.

It's no trick, they do swallow them. They just line thier body up perfectly vertiacally and put the sword in thier body. Thier body is vertical so it won't cut in any way. I think they do use speacail swords though.

They first have to get over the gag reflex. Relax their throat then swallow a sword. Ewwwwwww that sounds gross.
