I am a Christian. A born again Southern Baptist. God and Jesus are the most important factions in my life now. I was a terrible sinner for a good part of my life when I was younger. I have a very hard time forgiving myself for past sins, yet I know that God has forgiven me. Do most Christians feel this way or am I alone in this? No, I am not some religious nut who drops and prays if a dark cloud passes by overhead. I love the Lord and He has let me know that He loves me. I don't understand how some can be so callous with their beliefs as though they know and control their destiny. How can an educated person not believe there is a God? Even modern scientist are now learning that most all things recorded in the Old Testament are proven true and as time goes by, more and more are proven true. Many say the Bible reports that the world is only a few thousand years old. The Bible does not indicate that at all. There are different earth ages. A day to God may be a few million years, we don’t know. Seven days is not necessarily mean seven of our present days. There will be only a few compared to the population of the entire world who will go to Heaven. Do you want to be part of the few or do you think you’re just too smart to believe in God Almighty? Our jobs as Christians are to bring as many as possible to God so He can demonstrate His incredible love for them. Please give God a chance. Allow His Holy Spirit to fill you and you will know what many of us already know.

"Do most Christians feel this way or am I alone in this?"

I don't know how many Christians feel this way but you are certainly not alone. I just got finished counseling a young man who walked away from the Lord for a couple of years because he couldn't bear the pain of "letting God down" by sinning.

Many Christians seem to have trouble seeing themselves through God's eyes. Here are some Scriptural truths for you to store up in your heart to turn away the fiery darts of the accuser of the brethren.

Who Am I in Christ Jesus?

I am Loved (accepted) as…

Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Joh 15:15 I do not call you servants anymore, because a servant does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father.

Rom 5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1Co 6:17 But the person who unites himself with the Lord becomes one spirit with him.

1Co 6:19 You know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God, don't you? You do not belong to yourselves, 20 because you were bought for a price. Therefore, glorify God with your bodies.

1Co 12:27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.

Eph 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints who are at Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus:

Eph 1:4 according as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,

Eph 2:18 Because through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.

Col 1:113 He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Col 2:10 And you are complete in Him, who is the Head of all principality and power,

In Christ Jesus I am secure, I belong!

Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 2 But the Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

Rom 8:31 What, then, can we say about all of this? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

2Co 1:21 Now He who establishes us together with you in Christ and who has anointed us is God, 22 who also has sealed us, and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.

Col 3:3 For you died, and your life has been hidden with Christ in God.

Phi 1:6 having been persuaded of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus;

Phi 3:20 For our citizenship exists in heaven, from which also we eagerly await for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

2Ti 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Heb 4:16 Therefore let us come boldly to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

1Jo 5:18 We know that everyone who has been born of God does not continue to sin, but the one born of God guards himself, and the evil one does not touch him.

I am significant, I matter

Mat 5:113 "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt becomes tasteless, with what shall it be salted? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and to be trampled underfoot by men. 14 You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

Joh 15:5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; because apart from Me you can do nothing.

Joh 15:16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, so that whatever you may ask the Father in My name He may give to you.

Act 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

1Co 3:16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

2Co 5:18 And all things are of God, who reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and who gave to us the ministry of this reconciliation,

2Co 6:1 And working together with Him, we also urge that you not receive the grace of God in vain.

Eph 2:4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and seated us together in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus,

Eph 2:10 For we are His handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Eph 3:12 in whom we have the boldness and the access with confidence through faith in Him.

Phi 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

I want to start out by saying that I too, am a Christian and love the Lord God with all my heart.
Yes, our sins are forgiven because Jesus Christ died on the cross (Matthew chapter 26- chapter 28 ending @ verse 20)
And Yes, I have those days that I feel like God doesn't forgive me even though I know He does....well this is what i do...
1) Hit the target head on....i need to tell myself what i think God didn't forgive me for
2) Hit GUILT head on....what makes me feel so guiltly that i think God doesn't forgive me?
3)Read Psalms 35
4) read 1 john 2:2
5) Read 1 john 1:5
6)Go pray to God
7)Put a :-) on since u know that God loves u and had His only Son die for u

first i was confused as to whether u are actually asking a question? I like your message a lot. i am a born again Christian too.
i feel sometimes too that i can't seem to forgive myself althought God has forgiven me, and i have paid a lot, or at least i think so, for what sins i committed. i guess in a way it helps to keep me humble to God that He could forgive me and yet even I can see how grave my sins were, yet He showed mercy on me and loves me a great deal! I agree with a lot of what you have said! u seem to be a good person. If accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour and you have nothing to worry about. let your concerns rest in God's almighty hands and put your mind at ease! He does love you and your sins HAVE been forgiven! He sent his only Son to die for you so that you can be free of your sins! Don't let that be a waste, enjoy your life!

Okay, Here you are with whatever sin you have committed under your belt and it is eating away at your conscience ( as it should ). We must go to God in faith and ask for that forgiveness which He promises us.
Here comes the hard part. Now we have to go about forgiving ourselves when the pangs of guilt surround us because of the consequences involved as a result of the sin. Sometimes these consequences will last a lifetime, which makes forgiving yourself even more important and difficult.
We must resolve not to repeat the sin. Also you must remember there is a difference between a sin and a mistake. In either case, hopefully you have learned a lesson. You must, in confidence/faith know that God forgives you because He says that we must ask in supplicating prayer for what we need ( in this case, forgiveness ) and then be confident because of your faith that He will perfrm your requests.
Remember that king David was a man after God's own heart. Then think about the atrocities which happened in king David's life. The reason he was a man after God's own heart, was because of his ability to instantly repent and not to commit the same sin again. He learned by his mistakes and went about to continue in the service of God, which means he forgave himself.
Not forgiving yourself is spiritually deblilitating. You cannot move forward and as a result you become spiritually stagnant. It keeps you from growing. You begin to wallow in the mire of self pity.'Accept your responsibility in the sin, seek God's forgiveness as you repent and then move forward making whatever adjustments you need to become more like the Being Who gave His all so you could have forgiveness and that peace which passes all understanding.

Yes you are important to God, and if you truly repented and asked God for forgiveness, then yes your sins are forgiven. If you cant get over what happened in your past then you truly dont believe that God wiped your slate clean. He has forgiven you, get over the past, move on, quit letting the devil talk to you about old news. You have a new thing going on now. Jesus loves you.

Everyone is important to God especially those who believe in Him and His son Jesus Christ. Did you ask God to forgive you of your sins? If the answer is yes, then He did forgive you. It's hard sometimes for Christians or mere mortals to understand the nature of God and how He has the ability to forget about our sins once we ask Him to forgive them. We on the other hand remember what we've done and it is hard for us to forget. Actually this isn't a bad thing if you think about it...by remembering our sins and feeling bad about what happened then may prevent us from doing this again. Did you ever look at it this way before?

I struggle with the question as to how can educated people not know or believe in God as well. I have a brother and his family are atheists. My brother was not raised like that! He used to believe in God and go to church and he knew the Bible verses quite well. Everything was fine until he went to college and the professors influenced him to not believe in God, His son Jesus or the Bible. He is married and his wife doesn't believe in God either. They have a daughter who is 14 yrs. old and she doesn't believe in God either. My mother and I and my sisters have tried many ways to make him think about God again and to believe. So far he is farther and farther away from God. This frustrates me and my family. But we continue to pray for him and his family anyhow.

Please say a prayer for my brother and family. They need it badly. I thank God for people like you, who are not afraid to share the good news about believing in God and Jesus and a life of eternal peace in Heaven. May God Bless you now and forever more!

First lets clear up that part of creation, in the first chapter of Gen. we learn that "evening and morning were the first days, evening and morning were the second days..." evening to evening, sundown to sundown is 24 hours so we do know how long God spent in creation, second Jesus says "IF you LOVE ME, keep my commandments, and For God SO LOVED YOU that if you will be-live in Him you will have eternal life, we obey "BECAUSE" we are saved NOT in order to be, I am A Seventh Day Adventist Christian because amoung other things Creation and the creator is linked by the fourth commandment, and sunday the first day of the week is a tridition not a command of God, no where is the Holyness of the sabbath transfured to the first day of the week, but I invite you to study this for yourself, we worship God's Sabbath from sundown friday til sundown Sat, and you can go to church on sunday but only God can make a day holy, and you can't keep a day holy He never made. yes, all of us are very important to GOD. i too right now am struggling with forgiveness from within myself for something i feel was morally wrong, but i followed my heart and got what i wanted, at the high cost of hurting close loved ones. it has now been 30 months and i am still constantly praying that GOD forgives me and my boyfriend (future husband) and i pray he continues to bless us and all the people who got hurt on our path to togetherness. even though i am sure GOD has forgiven us for committing adultry, i myself still am haunted by the cruel lies and actions that occurred during our courtship. i have occassional nightmares. i still can cry at the drop of a hat when i reflect back on the night all hell broke loose on our families and the kids involved. i do not understand why i cannot let go of my guilt. if GOD can forgive us, why can i not forgive us? i live with guilt every day for the last 30 months. i hope one day i might have a day where i don't dwell on the sad times that we inflicted on our ex spouses. i just want to be happy and live a wonderful life with my future husband. i pray one day that GOD will bless our union.

I do think that some people feel this way sometimes. I for one knew better but I choose to do some things that I knew were wrong. I was living with a man and not being married. Also I had a child out of wedlock. I decided to change that and we got married. I thought that my son's problems were a punishment (he has some learning problems, also an autistic disorder). I realized that it was not my fault, and nothing I did or didn't do was a punishment in any way shape or form.

I have been "Church of God" most of my life. I know everyone will sin; I know I do. I have the dilemma of being Gay on top of that. The only sin the Bible says is Blaspheming the Holy Ghost. I thing God somehow punishes us when we do sin. Like parents do when the kids "act-up". But he does forgive, He said he does. I know it is hard to forgive ourselves It took me 7 years one time to forgive myself of wrong doing. And now that I have came to understand all things work together for good. Our ways are not his ways. And He always works in mysterious ways

You are truly blessed, there is reference to people who have felt as you do. Paul said he had to crucify himself daily. For by grace are you saved, when you give your sins to The Christ, they are no longer yours. He died for your transgressions. So if you believe that he paid the price, why would you claim them again. He has said they go into a sea of forgetfulness.

On the last day when you stand before The judge of heaven and earth, your sins will not be remembered.
In Jesus name, I pray that you forget them.

God bless you ,
