Sounds like the alternator has gone south. Some Fords have a fuse for the alternator in the fuse box (yours is in front of the engine by the cooling fan) and if I remember is under a cover but is a 175amp fuse. check it.. if good, check the rest of the fuses inside and out.. it you still have problems, alternator went.

and don't do the old habit of yanking the battery cable off... Many people have killed many engine computers doing that.. it's now a no-no

Do drive too far. Once that battery is run down you'll be stuck.

Did you check the alternator at the output? If it's 14+ then you have a regulator or cable problem. If it's 0, then you've found your problem.

I'm going to say that you can drive it but when i say that i mean to the parts store to let them check your alternators the battery is to help start the car then the alternator aids in the charging of the system hope this is helpful information

I was going to say alternator.
If you get a new one and it come with a new wire clip or plug.
Make sure you replace the plug that comes with the new alternator.
If it don't come with a new plug just forget it... this used to be a problem with Ford, not sure if it still is.

The alt is what makes the battery light come on. With the car running you should have around 13.5 volts. Replace the alt.
