Its a cliche phrase, "Read and Weep" typically said when playing cards and you have won. You say, "read it", look at the cards to see that you have lost and then, "weep", cry over your loses.

My mother used to say this a lot, "Read it and weep." She'd be approaching 100 now if she were still alive. I think it was a quote. I mean, the meaning is just what it says. "you aren't going to like what you are about to read." but it's being said it a humorous way, so it isn't about a big thing, like you wouldn't say it when showing somebody an obituary or an eviction notice. edit: well, I guess it's about poker now. I think the phrase predated its use in poker, though.

You show your cards then tell the other guy to read them and weep. As in cry, you just lost.

Then he shows you his cards, and you are happy you were wearing your brown pants...
