1969 AMC Hurst AMX S/S. 53 produced. Came stock with a Edelbrock cross-ram intake, dual-quad Holleys, 12.3:1 Pistons and Crane modified heads and a top speed of 174.295 mph. (with drag racing gears!)
It established 90 new records, including a 24-hour average of 140.79 mph. with a couple quick tweaks these cars ran in the high 10 second range in the 1/4 mile. Would have been the fastest production car ever made but 53 does not qualify as production so that honor went to the AC Cobra.
But, I'm not done yet... The AMX S/S wasn't just a drag racer, it had the same suspension as it's cousin the Javelin SST, the same suspension that won not one, but two SCCA Trans-Am series championships.
Oh, and they're cool lookin too!
If you want one they can be found. Un-Restored in decent shape they'll run ya just over $50,000, Restored will take you well over $100,000. For a car that retailed under $6000 brand new. COOLEST CAR EVER!!!!!
