My husband is older than me and has a soon to be 2 yr old granddaughter who I adore! But at 35 Idon't think calling me grandma is age appropriate..LOL Any way I don;t think my step daughter would like it because her mom is grandma. My husband and I have been togather 7yrs, so I'am not new to step family situations. But I would like to come up with something for her to call me other than my first name. Any suggestions?

My kids call their step grandparents...g'ma Kathy and g'pa Jack, because it was hard for her to understand the whole step thing.
But go with what is comfortable for her.

I preface my take by stating the fact that whatever situation a child grows up knowing is a reality that he or she does not question. I also preface my take by stating that my dad's father died long before I was born. Thus, my grandma remarried so I had a step grampa. Finally, realize that children have no real concept of age. Anyone who is an adult is old to them. I mean, think about whenever you were young. It is just the way it is. Your age has nothing to do with it.
I am with you. I don't think grandma is appropriate. I don't think anything that implies that you are her grandmother is appropriate, because you are not. She has that. Kinda like a stepkid doesn't call his step-parents mom or dad. It just isn't right. It doesn't mean that you are not special to her. If you treat her good, care about her, etc....which I have to believe you will...otherwise you wouldnt be on here asking questions. Actions mean so much more than words to everyone, especially kids. No matter what she calls you, if you love her and care for her, you will be very special to her.
Do you have a nickname at all? For example, my entire family calls my mom "sis" because she is the only daughter in even the extended family. If so, that would be the way to go.
I grew up calling my step grampa by his name. I never even thought twice about it. He was decent to me. However, he had his own grandkids, and I think it would be wierd for them if I called him grampa too. Furthermore, he wasnt my grampa. He was just Ed. I had a grampa that was alive and I had one that was dead. Neither one was him.
I would go with the nickname or your real name. It is only right. Plus, it would make you feel better. Not only is 35 young to be called grandma, not having grandchildren also makes it wierd!
Good Luck.

if the kid is 2, it should already be trying to call you something. Just go with what the kid says....and if it chooses to call you grandma, you should let your ego go and be proud that he would feel that close to you.

I think that auntie would be a nice suggestion if your stepdaughter is o.k. with it.I have a very close friend and my daughter knows her since she was a baby and she calls her auntie. Try and see if it will work.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

My wife wanted our grands to call her "Mimi", but the first one misunderstood her and started to call her Nini, which has been her name called by 6 of them now. (My name is "Geda", Ukranian for grandfather), hence the e-mail address.
