Like christians can talk for christians.. and agnostics can vouch for other agnostics.. how is it that everyone speaks on behalf of their people as if everyone is the same? Is it not true that even though one person may be a christian, that they can be immature and rediculous just like a non-religious person? I just get this feeling that everyone is speaking for everyone of their denomination.. ugh. Glad Im not a part of it!

OH, i do have to say that I am religious, just not to an organized religion. I do pray, praise and repent.. (oh and so much more!) I just dont have a following or follow a group.

K.M., I totally believe in what you have explained. This is how I have realized many faults of my own, thank you for reminding me of this theory. You are right, I have categorized people myself and spoke for them at some point in life, I just noticed it being in the religious questions area.. thanks again for making me notice!

You are correct in saying that even within the Christian world we are all different and have different levels of spiritual maturity. However, being a Christian means that we are to share the "Good News" with everyone we possibly can. All Christians seek to become Christ-like. Between the denominations we have differences, but the basic message is still the same. Personally I don't speak about doctrine unless asked, even my own. But what I do tell people would probably be agreed on by the majority of Christians and remember we are just people like everyone else too. We each have our own ideas and concepts.

Oh, and I wish you were part of it. God Bless.

Greetings-

This does happen a lot. I think the reasons for it vary, but I can tell you a quote from a book called (I think) "Eight Rules for Being Human":

"Others are mirrors of you. "

Roughly speaking, you see in others what you are yourself. So if someone says "all people are this way" it is typically because they are like that themselves.

It is particularly easy to fall into this trap when it comes to religion because you are speaking of an organization that someone willingly identifies themself with and assumes that everyone else making the same identification feels the same way.

Additionally, it is easier to sustain and justify your own beliefs if you think someone else feels the same way.

I hope this answers your question!

Best wishes.

I feel kinda the same way, I think its hard to be stuck to one denomination because its hard to follow every small detail of one religion. I dont believe in everything that the church denomination I attend and I personally dont try to speak on behalf of the church. but I think people do it because they like feeling apart of a group.. thats why there are churches, for developing a community.

Most Christian churches teach classes on how to defend the faith, and then tell their members to put it into practive by spreading the Gospel.

So, some people obviously flunked the class.
