Our lab loves the water / pool and she was in it most of the day today. Now she keeps digging at her ear, I know she must have water in it. She puts her whole head under. Is it ok to put swimmers ear solution (rubbing alcohol) into her ears? If its ok for us will it be ok for her?

Swimmers Ear Solution

Never use human products on animals without asking your vet.

There are ear cleansers formulated specially for dogs. Flush her ears with this several times a week, especially after she swims, and wipe her ears on with cotton balls only, never q-tips. Also try using dog ear powder to help keep her ears dry. If she's digging at her ear she could have an infection which is very common in dogs that swim. Take her to the vet just to be sure if the digging doesn't stop in a day or two.

No you should not put swimmers ear solution in a dog or cats ears . Sometimes they have mites and that requires a different solution from the vet. you need to get your dogs ears checked by a vet if you think there is something wrong with its ears

I have Newfies that swim all the time and I ALWAYS clean the ears out after swimming with just Which Hazel and cotton balls. It is drying enough to dry the ear out, and they have never gotten an ear infection!!!!!! Alcohol is a little too drying and a yeast infection can follow. Also it will sting like hell if there is any irritation in the ear. Then the dog learns to hate ear cleaning.

No. Because your dog is a water breed canine and it has floppy ears it is prone to ear infections due to the moisture in the ear canal. You should let your vet. examine her ears. IF infected he will give you a ear rinsing solution something like Epi-Otic and antibiotics. And you should keep the rinse on hand to use after every swim to help dry the moisture so it stops the yeast from growing.

No!!! Take it to the Vets and find out what is really going on in the ears, then use only what he/she prescribes.
