You can write letters to the company's and tell them about what you do and talk to local stores with the same info. Give them that tax id number you have, it will prove to them on the spot that you are what you say you are. The ones you write too may take a little time to write back, but they might send you some coupons for a little break on your food. Talk to your local newspaper and tell them about what you do and see if they can give you some good press. Just a few ideas, hope they help.

Try PetEdge company, they sell wholesale pet supplies to the public. They have good prices. Sorry they might not have alot in the actual food dept., but they have everything else that you need to run a shelter. Literally.

So you may make up some money on supplies, and please, since I worked with animals for several years and pet foods in the past - don't skimp on their food. They need good food like an Iams or ProPlan, ect. The major ingredients on the bag should not include CORN but meats. Corn is a filler and the same as us eating junk food so we don't feel as hungry for awhile.
If you already knew that than forget I said it - not meaning to imply you don't care - just FYI. : )

Shave off costs in other areas? Also you could try setting up a donation fund for feeding costs for your shelter. Ask the local grocery store or small 'mom & pop' pet store to let you put up a donation box for your shelter. Small pet stores themselves struggle to stay afloat competeing with the big chains - they should be pretty understanding about your rescue shelter situation. Make sure you add pictures of some of your rescued pets, and a brief sum-up of how you started a shelter and that it's all out of pocket (yours). That should bring in a bit?

Yeah, you better be a LEGIT animal resuce. From your other questions, you have some issues. Like wanting to get rid of kittens on here, having bipolar disorder, trying to conceive.......I am not sure of how legit you animal rescue is!!!!!! Pet Food companies do not just hand out food to every Dick and Jane that CLAIM to run a rescue!!!!! Hell, I work at a legit non-profit shelter, and we have a very hard time getting discount food!!!!!!!

You may have to do a little running around.
But call up all the grocery and department stores in your town. Tell them what you are doing and ask them if they have any busted bags of animal food to save them for you. And you will come by on a scheduled basis to pick any up.
You can offer to write out a reciept of the goods. They may need one for records on taxes and the such.
Check with any grocery warehouses in your area also.

Wholesale markets like Costco, Sams, and BJs.

Ask for donations, or permission to put donation bins in vet offices, pet stores etc..

if you are a legitamate shelter contact a pet store - most pet stores will give their outdated food free to shelters who request it. or set up with a food company if you promote their food to your adopters many quality food companies will give you free food (quality food = not food you get in grocery stores)
