A few days ago, I read that a converted Muslim German teacher, has asked to go to school with her headscarf. First, it was not accepted. Then she said, nuns are wearing their dresses, then she found right, and now she can go to school with her headscarf.
Do you think, people should be able to go to school with their religious signs/dresses? Muslims with headscarf, Jews with Kippa, Christians with cross?..
Is there a difference for you, if it's a teacher or a student?

Yes, this is part of their religion and certainly more acceptable then the girls wearing halters, tube tops or low-riders.
It should not matter if they are students or teachers.

This is a very delicate subject especially for me.
See I am very much against Church and public school mixing at all. However we are seeing more and more Muslems in the U.S. I don't know too much about the Jews Kippa, but I do know the Muslems scarf or whatever it is called is a huge part of thier religion. In other words forcing them to take it off is against our constitution. However the is another major law seperation of Church and State (I'm not sure, but I believe it is also in the Costitution.
So how can either be possible. It's actually easier then you might think. We need to get rid of the hat rules in schools. I mean there are not enough Muslems in most areas to create a Mulem school like the Christians can.
See by getting rid of this rule all together it wouldn't matter if they wore those things or not. Secondly how does somebody wearing a scarf or anything like that impede on your religious freedoms. I mean if you wore something that said God is great you can offend somebody. But a scarf or a hat does not say anything like that.
As long as the teacher does not talk about religion in her class room, I would have no problem with her wearing a scarf.
The difference is what can offend others and what will not.

I don't see it much in Australia, but whenI worked in England I worked with Muslim teachers and many (not all) of the women wore headscarf and men (again not all) wore some form of head covering. This was also the case among the students.
Some schools also had a special room set aside where students could go to pray without leaving the school.
On a separate issue, I found that the Muslim teachers & students were some of the most committed teachers and best students that I have ever worked with

A simple head scarf is not a problem that I can see, but covering the whole face may present problems.
In the US I see a problem in the PE requirements that someone may not want to wear gymn shorts and a t shirt and won't be able to get their PE credits. Our whole society is not made to conform to the muslim religion and I do not see that we should have to change. We have been doing this for many years and why should foreigners come and force us to change the laws?? They need to learn english and accept the customs we have here.
16 million mexicans were here and nobody knew that there were so many illegals.
2 million muslims come and all of a sudden we have serious problems..
What is next sharia law. ??? I saw one of the cop videos on TV and a guy stole about 10 packs of cigarettes from a store and the owners (from egypt) thought that they should cut the guys arms off. The cops had to explain that we don't do that in the US and have other customs./

I am out of school but, my feelings are this. People should be able to practice whatever religion they want to that is what America is all about I am not one who like to wear there religious belifs on my shirt. I don't wear it to show off to others it is a personal relationship with God.
People have there own customs so as long as it is safe to wear for everyone around, not provactive, disruptive to the learning environment, does not spread hatred then yes they should be allowed.

Most schools are controlled by a local school board, and that board should be a reflection of that community. The Harper Valley PTA is a good example of an individual bucking the system. Get involved, do more than talk.

Yes, within reason. I am a conservative Christian who wears skirts all the time. I know when I went for my first job at a MRDD facility, they told me at first I would have to wear pants because I could not be modest and handle behaviors in a skirt. But they had to give me a chance, and I was never immodest. If I was immodest, or naked as your one answerer said, because I would then be infringing on the rights of others!

People should be able, within reason, to wear what they want in school. Teachers should dress as a professional yet I see no reason for a teacher to not be allowed to dress as their faith required as long as they don't try to push their beliefs off on anyone.

Yes it should be allowed for teachers and students! It will teach students to be more excepting as well, think about the kind of message u send to kids when u tell them they are not allowed to wear the clothes of their religion. It's good for kids to see diversity.

Freedom of religion should be available for everyone. Either that, or they should change the laws to reflect the actual situation - freedom of religion only applies if one chooses Christianity because that is exactly what is happening. Everyone else has to fight for the same right.
