If you are certain that it doesn't require a VET for stitches? And it isn't bleeding profusely then I suggest to wash the wound with a saline solution ( like eye wash or contact lens wash,) to avoid the sting. Then use common "triple anti-biotic " ointment found at Wal Mart or K Mart for the generic brand. It doesn't have to be the Neosporin brand name. Apply a good glob on the wound once a day, twice if the dog has somehow managed to remove it.

If the "gash" is large then you may want to visit a local "Feed and Seed" store and get an antibiotic to put in the dogs water. It's very cheap, about $6 for a pack. Much more than you will need.

You can also purchase "powered sulfur" very cheaply to help close a deep wound. It's a yellow powder that you can mix with a little water to make a paste and just smooth it on the wound.

Good luck and keep a close eye on the dog for signs of infection.

you are able to sparkling the wound with peroxide. Pour a cap complete over the wound and prepare rigidity with a paper towel. prepare yet another cap complete and wait some seconds and dab off the added. prepare some neosporine and to any extent further do no longer depart the canines outside for more desirable than 2 hours at a time. Leaving him outside exposes him to the elements inclusive of warm temperature, chilly, rain, and debris from severe winds. He would properly be injured or contaminated with ailment from yet another animal, contaminated with parasites, or abused by an thoughtless human being. there are distinct issues that could want to ensue. you quite might want to take him to the vet besides the undeniable fact that. If someone is injuring him you'll choose a paper path for injuries or maybe merely to be probability-free and make certain he's alright.

Keep putting an anti-bacterial ointment on it (as soon as it rubs off, put more). Have your dog indoors so flies won't infect the area.

Clean the area with peroxide on a cotton ball. Make sure none of the peroxide get on its eyes, nose or ears...

If the cut needs stitching, the best bet is go to the vet.

Good Luck with your baby...

Treat it just as you would a gash on the top of your head. Wash it thoroughly, cover it with an antibiotic, then try to put a dressing on top of it, if he will stand for it. If it's bad enough, take him to the vet to get it stitched up.

Is it big enough that it could need stitches????? If not or if you just aren't going to take him to the vet, clean it with a mild soap and water daily washing gently with cotton balls from the indise of the wound to the outside. You can then apply a LITTLE triple antibiotic ointment.

Clean it up well and then put A and D ointment, make sure that you keep it up, checking it every day a couple times a day. If it is a bad cut that can be glued with super glue then that will work also.

Sulfadine is formulated especially for treating cuts and abrasions on animals, plus it contains a chemical that tastes bad to the dog so he won't lick it and make it worse.

Wash it with soap and water then put a little peroxide till it isn't to bubbly and add a little neosporin. It should heal nicely . you need to do this everyday until it looks about healed.

keep dirt hair and meds (flea drops/collars etc.) out of it and apply neosporin or bacitracin (thats generic neosporin) often. make sure he doesn't lick it (although he probably wont be able to as it is on the top of his head) if you have other animals make sure they dont touch it either. keep him from scratching it also. if it doesnt improve soon take him to the vet immediately.
