Well, they probably will have difficulty getting registered for kindergarten unless there is a medical necessity for them not to be vaccinated, although each state is different. Also, the diseases that they can catch (measles, mumps and rubella) can be very dangerous. If you or someone else is pregnant and your children get german measles and transmit it to the pregnant mother, a variety of disabling birth defects can occur in the fetus.

You'll find a lot of people who will tell you the disadvantages, mainly being able to get the diseases covered, and passing them on to others. If you're not comfortable with the vaccines, those are not really compelling reasons, though.
That said, the major concerns with the MMR involve younger children. Healthy children over 2 will handle it better than 1 year olds.

Get your kids vaccinated! Mumps are nothing to play with, you would not want your children to get that or the other two possible diseases, measles or rubella.
I had mumps as a child and it was really bad. I had them so serious they got infected and I had to have surgery to drain the infection, plus it affected my brain for a good year afterward and the doctors thought I'd be retarded - all from the simple childhood mumps.
I am so glad that the MMR vaccine is around today and parents don't have to worry about their children getting the mumps or the other diseases that were so common when I was a kid. It would have tortured me to see my son catch any of them.

Like everyone else said, you will have a difficult time registering your child in schools and sports. My kids are in private school and they also need their immunizations.
MMR does not cause autism. There was speculations years ago, but its been cleared up that vaccinations to not cause autism. They are finding the autistic brain is different from conception...hence the child is born with autism. You don't just get a shot and come down with it. I know parents still believe this to be true, but many parents of autistic kids look for reasons why there child is autistic. Was it the water? The shot? The tramatic experience with the dog?
A whole other topic.

There have been measle and mumps outbreaks in the US in recent years. These are not diseases that have been erradicated and they keep coming back because people nowadays are choosing not to vaccinate their children. Keep in mind that complications from these illnesses can include deafness, brain damage, sterility/infertility (in boys) and even death. If I were you I'd have them vaccinated ASAP. Better to be safe than sorry. I'm all for personal conviction regarding certain things but I don't play chicken with my children's health. Also, I have an autistic child and NO he did not get it from his MMR vaccine.

No disadvantages. My 4 kids are not fully vaccinated because I don't blindly do what doctors tell me and i research a lot. There is a high risk of autism with immunizations and it irks me that a lot of people don't see that. If every other child is vaccinated then you don't have to worry. Be informed, don't be dumb like these other people
I've gotten my children in school just fine. They are MY children and nobody has a right to tell me what to do with them. That's just a scare tactic from the uneducated parents. They will go to school just fine.

Yes, your child will not be able to start school, kindergarten, with out the MMR vaccines in the state of Ohio. Also, if you are interested in preschool for your children, they will need the vaccine for that too.

The disadvantage to not getting the vaccine is contracting the diseases it's designed to prevent.
To Brenda:
"I've gotten my children in school just fine. They are MY children and nobody has a right to tell me what to do with them. That's just a scare tactic from the uneducated parents. They will go to school just fine".
I happen to be an educated parent that vaxs her children. The parents who don't chose to vax can do so only because of the educated parents who do vax. If it weren't for other parents vaxing, these diseases would still be very common. You are getting a free ride off of the parents who chose to vax. Keep that in mind the next time you call us uneducated!

Measles outbreaks are increasing in frequency due to: a) increased number of unvaccinated children of (mostly illegal) immigrants, and b) more and more parents listening to quacks who blame vaccines for everything from autism to bad chacks.
You do the math.
