Stereotype. I'm a Christian that doesn't drink rum or eat pork. The Bible doesn't ban either for the Christian. Proverbs 20:1 Says whosoever is deceived is not wise. God told Peter to slay and eat. What Bible do you read?
Whether you believe something to be true or not doesn't mean you will obey 100%. If you drive, you believe that the law says you must not speed, yet you do. Why? If you are a driver?
Duh????

I am not familiar with rum being banned (I could easily be wrong, though), but I do know that the issue of eating pork had a great deal to do with the covenant God made with the Jews...you could find that in the book of Deuteronomy.
Jesus, who is central in the Christian faith, came and represented a new covenant to God's people. Pork was no longer an issue. It'd probably help if you were a bit more familiar with the new testament, then.
There are plenty of Jews who don't adhere to the tenets of Judaism and Christians to the teachings of Christ regardless of those two things though...that, quite simply put, is why were are in need of salvation--we are not perfect.

First off I could introduce my self as a doctor. It does not mean I have any medical training. Lots of people call themselves Christians and don't walk the walk. Maybe because It makes them feel better or gives them a false sense of security. Whatever the reason the bible sets up a very strict set of rules. If these rules are not followed you will be punished eternally. Fact is nobody has been able to follow these rules but one, Jesus Christ. So what do we do then? Jesus provided a way through Him that we can be saved from this terrible punishment. Since our sin requires the payment of death Jesus provided that payment through His execution on a cross. Jesus rose again three days later defeating death and providing a way for our salvation. In order to receive this salvation we must accept that we are need of salvation, Believe that Jesus is the only way and that what He did was for us. And turn away from our own selfish unfulfilling desires to follow Him.
You may ask, "Why do I need to buy into all that I am a good person and I try to always help others?"

You gave an example that is not so good since He did not ban eating pork or drinking of rum.
Many persons professing to be Christian are not saved, so they easily disobey the Word of God.

I am a Christian, how do you know if I eat pork and drink rum???
Secondly, the Word of God can be true, it doesn't mean all people will be made sinless. Jesus died to wash away the sins, but no one but Him is perfect.

Two things:
1. The dietary rules you mentioned were only for the Jewish people, not everyone else (the Gentiles). Since almost all current Christians are non-Jewish, the rule doesn't apply.
2. We DO break many rules on a regular basis. Human beings are imperfect and we can't help but mess up on a pretty regular basis. That's why we need a Savior.

Because we are all sinners. We all fall short of the grace of God. The devil is the prince of the air. It's human nature to sin. If you were born on a deserted island, you would sin. There's never going to be any way of getting around that. The POPE even sins. If you were born on earth, you are a sinner. Jesus is the ONLY being in human form who ever has, or ever will, walk this earth and be totally sinless! That's why it is said that only a handful of people make it to Heaven, and the road to Heaven is very narrow. The devil knows his time is short, that's why he's so hellbent (no pun intended) of taking us with him to Hell. Jesus holds the keys to Hell, and the devil and all his angels, and all the un-repentant sinners, will be put there one day. That's why it's so important to get saved and try to have a clean conscience and soul.

Jesus said at Matthew 7: 16-20: "By their fruits YOU will recognize them. Never do people gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles, do they? Likewise every good tree produces fine fruit, but every rotten tree produces worthless fruit; a good tree cannot bear worthless fruit, neither can a rotten tree produce fine fruit. Every tree not producing fine fruit gets cut down and thrown into the fire.Really, then, by their fruits YOU will recognize those [men]."
So, Jesus is saying that you will know the difference between true and false christians by the "fruit" they produce in their lives. Or in other words, you can tell who a person really is by what he does with his life. So, if a Christian disobeys the word of God repeatedly, then maybe they aren't really a Christian.
