Well certainly some minor yet important issues come to mind(I am Owner of a Travel Agency):

1-Maximum per night rate you're willing to pay
2-If you plan to take camping gear/equipment, then your dilemna's solved. Otherwise, an inexpensive, prt-friendly Motel may be the answer.
3-How long will your stay be for? Checkin/checkout dates in mind?

Minor stuff but important in that it will simplify somewhat the accomodations dilemna. If you could kindly either call, email me at: indysteve1563@yahoo.com, or reach me through Yahoo Messenger with what both of you have in mind, then we can investigate which option makes more sense.

We have good travel package. Travelocity believe that you deserve great travel experiences-so strongly that we created our own Travelocity Customer Bill of Rights. These rights are a promise to our customers that we're on your side--that when you book with Travelocity, "you'll never roam alone."

lake Placid. Very appealing town in alpine setting; with limited budget , go to saranac Lake, just 6 miles away. Very pretty village. lots of outdoor stuff. ask about the "flume'.
