First, I'm disgusted by most of the answers given on here. If your cat mauled you, there is probably a reason. Were you teasing it too much and it got tired of it? You give little detail. So, unless you punish the cat immediately for what it did, then it will not and I mean NOT understand what it is being punished for later. So, at this point there is nothing you can do. The next time it tries to do this, dump a cup of water on it. That is one of the most humane ways to discipline a cat. If it continues, then try to rehome it...it doesn't like you.

WHY did the cat maul you? Were you frightening it? If you were going to punish the cat, it should have been done right away. You've waited, so the cat will not make a connection with the earlier mauling, and will just think you are mean and deserving of more mauling.
Look at the situation that led up to the incident, and look for solutions to avoid that scenario happening again.

Is this usual behavior for the cat or was this a freak occurrence? If it is usual behavior, you may need to ask your vet for some help on this issue. If it is a freak occurrence, try to think back to what preceded the mauling. There are usually reasons for something like this. For example, was someone the cat doesn't know visiting or were you stressed out and acting differently? Sometimes this is a sign of illness. The cat can't really walk up to you and say "Hey, by the way, I am having some issues with the kitty food you buy me. It gives me a stomach ache." One other thing, don't act afraid of the cat. If you do that makes your cat uneasy and begin to think they are the "king of the hill". That is opening a can of worms you don't want to get into. Hope that helps.

Why did it maul you? Most cats I've met are pretty docile so unless you were doing something it didn't like, and it would have warned you before hand it didn't like it, I dont think the cat should be punished. Perhaps you just shouldn't have a cat.

This is a tough one..but whatever you do DONT HIT IT!!! If you do it will become violent and maul on you even more!! Just when it does that hit it on the nose with a newspaper like you would do to a dog, or lock it in a cage for like 20 minutes. Im not sure if that will work cuz i dont think its as easy to train a cat as it is to train a dog....if nothing work get the thing a muzzle.

Since you didn't give any details I can only assume that you started the altercation. When you have to go on line to ask how to "punish" any animal or person, I think you should be investigated. Animals react to their owners actions in most cases. Personally, you sound like a jerk to me and someone should find out who you are and take your cat away and put it in a loving home...

Your cat probably mauled you because it felt attacked or threatened by you. Perhaps you are the one that needs punishment.

A. Go to the doctor and have a blood test for cancer. Animals have been known to do this type of behavior after smelling something in tumors.
B. If your test is clear, either put this vicious animal down or quit terrorizing him!
C. Keep a large spray bottle of water handy at all times. One spray gets them every time and you will get a tremendous amount of satisfaction from it! If you're the one egging him on, give yourself a good spray and stop it!!

if you didn't do anything to cause the cat to respond in that way, a good tool for training a cat is a spray bottle. Cats don't liek to get wet and giving the m a spray or two of water helps them recognize when they should stop.

Leave the cat alone it don't know any better and you are supposed to know better but some people are dumb.
If I punished you then you know how I feel about it.
