Cats have their first heat around 5 to 6 months, but like teenagers, they are not really ready to be good parents at that age. Breeders will not let their cats get pregnant until they are over a year old. Unless you are breeding cats, you are better off having your cat spayed. There are already so many unwanted cats and kittens in the world! If you really want more cats, you should adopt them. Cats that are spayed can live long, healthy lives without feeling they are missing anything, especially if they have kitty companions and humans who take good care of them.

Most cats can have kittens at about 6 months of age (if they're female, of course!). I did know someone, however, who had a cat who was only 5 months old when she got pregnant. Take your cat(s) to the vet and ask questions; spaying is a great idea both for your sanity and the overall health of your pet.

Cats get "in heat" from the age of 6 months to males, 9 to females, but usually the best and most healthy time to let that happen is like in 2-3 years like someone else said...

Usally around 6-8 months... but its not healthy for them to get pregnant until after the first heat I believe. You can get your cat spayed at 6 months... so go ahead and do that!!!!!

You need to get her fixed not let her breed. You want a kitten go to a shelter. Its kitten season...meaning there are thousands of unwanted kittens flooding local shelters. Trust me. Your cat does NOT want to experience the "joys" of motherhood so just get her fixed. Contribute to the solution, not the problem of kitty overpopulation.
