He is sleeping alot and doesn't whistle or screech. He just stays in his cage and is very mopey. He still has a good appetite and his dropings are normal.

When they have a change in behavior like that, it is important to find out why fast. Birds are excellent at hiding what is wrong with them. If he is sick, you need to get him med's right away. If he is just reacting to heat (it was 100 degrees where I live today), then this is probably what I would expect from him.

It is a good sign that the droppings are normal and that his appetite is good. Be very observant over the next couple of days.

Good luck-
Savannah

Sounds to me like he is bored. Pay more attention to him. Give him more time out of his cage. Offer him some pasta and fruit and veggies to munch on but maybe stuff some in a kong toy. Give him toys to play with but change them out every day or two. Rotate them so his cage stays interesting. Most important is pay attention to him. Birds are very sensitive creatures and get depressed easily.
Of course if he is puffy and not eating.....or if you try all that and he doesn't improve, tkae him to the vet.

My bird(tiel) once in a while..once in 6 months or so..will fully shut down for 2 days or so. He will just keep to himself and does not like anyone to disturb him. Then he gets better and becomes normal again. So just try to leave him alone for 1-2 days and see what happens.

If he is still the same way then take him to the vet ASAP.

If his droppings are normal and he is eating normally, then there is no immediate cause for alarm. He may be bored, broody or molting. Most birds when molting get very quiet, stop whistling and lack energy as it is very stressful on them. You should moniter him though just in case.
