Well, I think right now Islam has more of a rep for violence in the name of god. The way some people talk you would think that terrorist training was required by the Quran.
I think that crimes committed by clergy attract so much attention because many of us feel that clergy put themselves out there as closer to god, more holy - the leader and keeper of the word of god.
When they sin in such a big way they seem like the biggest hypocrits and it reflects poorly on the faith they represent. If people like that are rising in the ranks (and in the numbers) it makes the rest of the group look suspect. I mean 1 or 2, how could anyone have know. A couple a year seems like a religion is promoting the wrong people for the wrong reasons or worse.
Look how crazy people got over Clinton's sex scandal. A leader caught in a compromising position draws attention and reflects poorly on the folks that elected that leader, right?
Peace!

Because of the ritualistic pretense that being religious somehow makes a person no longer like everyone else. Everyone else (who admit to being part of the evolutionary world of animals, flaws and all) wants to see these 'holier-than-thou' types fall off their pedestals and join reality. The reality is that creating ritualistic false egos and secretive rites are good ways to attract people who don't exactly live in the challenging 'real' world. Whenever you separate people from society, you create psychological crutches that get kicked out or emotional ropes to hang themselves with. That's why the priest/boy thing became so rampant, the evangelists had their own amoral lives with prostitutes, and why most people don't know anything at all about the day-to-day workings of church economics, politics, and criminality.

I would understand your anti religion attitude better if you would have mentioned Muslims instead of Christians. But you didnt, so I don't. I dont see christians raping or killing anyone, but I see muslims doing it. Muslims gang rape women in Pakistan as court ordered punishment for made up offenses. Has a Christian ever done that? Muslims killed 30 million Chinese when they took Indonesia. Has Christians ever done anything close to that?
You are obviously biased against Christian people, but its ok. Remember, Jesus loves you. The rest of us think ur an *** hole.

Its because, in the past, that the RCC has been given a bad name (and they deserve some of it). We all know about the Crusades, and the and all of the molestation scandals. In general though, stories like that sell. "Someone preaching peace and virtue molested a child." The stories sell. And how are christians crazy and bloodthirsty? I mean, I don't think im crazy... at least not much.

First of all Christians don't claim to be perfect, but they should be held to a higher standard, I guess. And people who do that kind of stuff, you really gotta question their faith. I can't see knowing my savior and thinking that's okay. On the other had, it says that the devil is the deceiver, so there ya go.

It is an excuse to pass the buck
It all comes down to self responsibility
I see it as Karma from a past life
Maybe the person they have killed or raped did the same to them in the past life.
What comes around goes around remember.

You should not generalize people into one category. That's where this all gets started. Don't make a blanket statement about a group of people because one person acted a certain way.

You need to do a little research.
"With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion." ~ Steven Weinberg
