I don't have children, but it is not the government's job to teach kids morals. It is the parents.

It should be the parents' job, but the way public school is sort of forced upon people who can't afford a private school, the government has implied that the job rests with the institutions. I inquired about homeschooling my children and got quite a frosty answer from their school. Education starts in the home, but our society requires most parents to be at work for someone else, so who is then teaching the kids for most of their lives?

It is of course against the law now for public schools to teach morals, ( at least christian). And morals have long ago been lost in public schools ( along with alot of truths about history and other matters)
I would only home school and/or private school

At the core of our values and morals you will find a history of religion. At one time there was one religion through out europe (catholicism) and that was the same for many years and even after the reformation the morals were basicly the same. Soon europe colinized america and brought there morals with them. Through out the years your parents have taught you about life so you picked up on there morals and eventually society had evolved into a totly differnt way. So either way your kids gonna get basicly the same moral development

The government, no; society, yes - sort of. Obviously, the primary responsibility is that of the parents. However, each of us is part of the society. Individuals make up a society, and the society's standards will reflect those of the individuals.
I guess I should say that it isn't the society's place to teach morals, but it is society's place to uphold and respect morals.

The parents' job of course. Society is just there to help me reenforce what I'm going to teach them.
While I don't have kids right now, I'd sent them to public school. Why? Personal experience on my part. I believe that many, but not all, teachers in public school are very capable people at teaching what the kids will need to know. Of course, it would also require me to be part of the learning process to make sure that they learn what they need.
My parents, while not entirely active in my education, were at least around to motivate me to do the best I can. Parents nowadays can't even do that.....

It is the parents responsibility to teach children morals and personal character. But, I believe school systems should be structured to reiterate what the child has already learned at home. Therefore, private school would be better in terms of this (sorry all you public school fans out there). But, private school is expensive. Our daughter is 3 years old and not in school, yet. I think because of finances, she will be attending public school.....but I'd prefer private school (better atmosphere, statistically better teachers and statistically better test scores). I want the best for my child. Who wouldn't?

Morals and character are gleaned from ones parents not the government (by the time people reach government they have no morals left)
Only parents can guide their childrens development. Their morals and ethics will be transferred to the child with every action and reaction they make, so parents be careful what you say and what you do it will affect the rest of your childs life.

As a parent myself, I believe that it is the parents responsibility to teach our children morals and values until they reach school age. The yonger years of a child life is a very influential time. As they grow, I believe the teachers and parents should work together no matter what type of school the child attends.

It is the parents' responsibility to teach their children, not government's. Look at how the socialist party, the nazi party, etc etc...all got such a foot hold...with public school teachings. I homeschool...because I want my child having the values and morals of our faith..and not of the government or the teacher who is hired by the public schools.
