I have to get rid of the headphones that came with my iPod Video 30gb, because they begin to irritate my ear after continuous use. I have been debating whether to get the apple in-ear headphones, or to get a pair of behind the head. I am looking for headphones under 50$, so if you have any suggestions, please give them to me.

I can't tell you which earphones will sound the best to you, but I can tell you that the Comply NR1's will be comfortable. I'm an airline pilot and I use an aviation headset every day that uses the same Comply Canal Tips that are on the NR1. They're *extremely* quiet (better than the David Clark active noise reduction headset I used to use) and *very* comfortable. You can expect a short period of adjustment as you get used to having something inside your ear, but after that, you'll forget you have them in.

Despite what the manufacturer says, the Canal Tips *can* be washed and resused a couple of times. I use a mild solution of dishsoap and warm water, gently squeeze them in a paper towel, then let them air dry for a couple of hours. After a couple of washings, the foam starts to deteriorate and they should be replaced, especially if you're relying on them for hearing protection.

Replacement Canal Tips can be found at many audiology supply stores online, but the cheapest price per tip that I've found is Clarity Aloft at http://www.clarityaloft.com/purchase.htm

There are at least three versions of the NR1 earphones for sale, at varying price levels. I just bought one for $32.95 from a Yahoo store called The Ear Plug Super Store at http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/raiseawihepr.html

I'm sure nirmalketan's suggestion that magnets in your ears will cause brain damage is well-intentioned, but it's a bit alarmist, and unsupported by medical science. If magnetic fields were damaging to the brain, do you suppose neurologists would make routine use of magnetic resonance imaging machines, which use massively powerful electromagnets? Besides, the magnets in earphone drivers are miniscule and are *not* "very powerful". Nor do they sit inside your ears, as nirmalketan said. Only the Canal Tip goes inside your ear; the driver ramains outside, approximately where the driver would be in an over-the-ear type headphone.

Buy the earphones and enjoy them; just keep the volume at a resonable level and you'll be fine.

in performance in ear are great but for health i think in ear is not good specially for people like you who like to use it continuously, because there is very power full magnet in it and its magnetic field may adversely effect brain as it is very near to brain in in ear type headphone, second thing in ear type headphone sound wave use to trap in the ear due to its closed design this also may result in damage to ear or brain, so behind the head type (which is mostly open type design)is better and model for behind the head Sony mdr g 74 sl (app40) or g 54 LP(app 20) this headphones also use to deliver great performance if you are want to go for in ear type try creative (app 35)model no i forget or Sony ex 71/81 (app 50)

Comply NR1 Earphones are In-The-Ear style, made of the same foam that we Audiologists use to demonstrate hearing aids and to test hearing.

I haven't listened to them, but I know they will be comfortable and secure in the ear and good at reducing ambient noise for better sound quality at safer volume levels. The next best thing to custom molded earphones for a fraction of the price!
