Galatians 6:2
Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

bear - bastazo, bas-tad'-zo; perhaps remotely derivative from the base of Greek 939 (basis) (through the idea of removal); to lift, literal or figurative (endure, declare, sustain, receive, etc.) :- bear, carry, take up.

We are asked to carry them for the purpose of removing them. This is done through prayer and, sometimes in the physical realm. If a person needs help carrying groceries up stairs, helping the person relieves them the burden of going up the stairs with them. You now carry the "burden."
Relate this in the spiritual. I knew a lady who had the burden of depression and she was thinking of killing herself. God placed the burden on my heart to pray for her and I asked this be lifted from her.
How did this turn out?

We have been happilly married for five years.

I knew we are supposed to help each other but I didn't know we were to take up your burdens. Why would I take up your burdens when God tells me to give him my own?
