You have asked a really good question. I haven't seen it asked before. I hope my answer will help you to better understand it and more.
Today, if we use God name in vain, or Jesus Christ name irreverently, it will be forgiven if repented of. Anyone can come to Christ and gain salvation through repentance.
During the tribulation, there will be followers of Satan and his angels walking here on Earth. People will either be blessed by GOD with a stupor and be swept away with satan's doctrines, or be a member of GOD's Elect.
Only GOD's Elect can sin the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. This is when they are taken to the synagogue of satan and refuse to allow the Spirit of GOD to speak through them.
The ones who have been blessed with the stupor or slumber will never fall into this sin, but be protected by GOD.
Its all there, in the volumne of the Book, His Word.><>

There is a definition for blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. See Matthew 12:32, Mark 3:28, and Luke 12:10. Once it is done, there is no escape from Hell, according to classical Christian theology.
You commit the "unforgivable sin" by asserting that Jesus got the power to do miracles by worshiping the Devil, or by making a deal with the Devil, and thereby gaining sorcerous powers, rather than doing those miracles by the grace of God.
The Jewish holy book, the Talmud, commits many slanders against Jesus, including the Unforgivable Sin. Thus, there really is no possible reconciliation between the two faiths.
Christianity asserts that Jesus is the only possible way to Heaven (John 14:1-6). Judaism asserts that Jesus is irretrievably damned. Do we see any negotiating room here? I don't think so! In order for Christians and (religious) Jews to get along, it would be necessary for one or the other to compromise his faith by disregarding vital parts thereof.
Incidentally, the Talmud also claims that Jesus was a bastard and that his mother, Mary, was a whore. It further claims that Jesus was not restored to life after he died, but went to Hell where he has ever since been tortured in a pit of boiling excrement.
According to Hebrew translator Israel Shahak, there is an ancient Jewish ritual prayer that beseeches G-d to kill all the Christians.

An excellent question, by far one of the best ones I've seen posted here. Its one that the answer doesn't come to mind right off the bat.
I know that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is considered the only unforgivable sin by the Bible. I consider it to be (and am not certain) the total renounciation of Christ's presence (the Holy Spirit) in the life of the believer on a permanent basis.
Key in on the word "permanent" there... That doesn't mean because you did something you shouldn't have done that you have blasphemied the Holy Spirit and are unforgiven. Rather I tend to side with blasphemy of the Holy Spirit being along the lines of dabbling in witchcraft and the occult (i.e. converting to Satanism). However I am really not sure, so don't quote me on it.

WOW! Just today, our 12 year old asked if there was any sin that God does not forgive. I said "blasphemy", then explained what I (personally) thought it is: Hating the Holy Spirit. It's more than denying God, although that's a part of it. Dying without accepting Jesus isn't blasphemy but, according to the Christian church, no one can come to God without accepting Jesus. That seemed to satisfy the inquisitive 12-year-old mind. Hope it helps you, too.

If you look at the context of the passage, it occured when the Pharisees atributed what Jesus was doing (the miracles) with the works of Satan. Jesus replied that blaspheming against him was forgiveable, but that blaspheming against the Holy Spirit was not. I have heard 2 possible solutions based on the context. The first solution is that it was a sin one could only when Jesus was in human form on the earth because it was only period in history when you could blashpheme Jesus but not the Holy Spirit. The other possible solution I've heard is takes into account that the Holy Spirit can interact with you up until the very moment you die. Since you can choose to deny Him up until the moment you can die, you can blaspheme the Holy Sprit and beacuse you never asked for forgiveness, you never get it.

The Holy Spirit testifies of the Person and Work of Christ. If a person after learning and knowing that Jesus is the Son of God, the only Savior deliberately and willingly denies and rejects the Work of the Spirit, there is no way of salvation left for them. This is not just unbelief but a person who KNOWS and willfully rejects.

The Holy Spirit is said to speak to you and let you know wrong from right , its like when you know theres something not right about a situation. Its said that that is the Holy Spirit/Ghost.. What ever you call it, if you deny that it exists and deny it when it has especially blatantly shown Itself to you ; that is called Blasphemy! Also The Holy spirit is able to show you the truth of the exsistance of God,Jesus,And itself. If you truely know they existin your heart and yet you Deny this, its considered denying The Holy Ghost/Spirit.
Its right up there with being as serious as committing Murder or suicide.... Not a good one to try on for size if you ask me....
I hope this has helped your thirst for knowledge...

Many believe it's the act of rejecting Salvation. This is possible. Others believe you can get saved and then decide you don't want it anymore, in which case Hebrews 6 clearly states that there is no longer a sacrifice for you. It could be both.
Don't worry, though. As long as you are seeking God everyday, and growing in holiness, it's a sure sign you're His. "Nothing can snatch you out of His hand," and "neither height nor depth, nor angels nor demons... nor anything created can seperate you from the love of Christ."

You can blaspheme God, it can be forgiven.
You can blaspheme Jesus, it can be forgiven.
You can blaspheme the Spirit, it will not be forgiven. WHy?
It is giving credit to the devil for the work that the Holy Spirit has done.
It also says to speak evil against the works and nature of the Holy Spirit.
