Religion is responsible for the majority of wars, conflict and murder of innocent life since humanity began. There is considerable evidence to classify religion as evil, and talk of religion (Gods etc) should be banned. Because the records prove over and over again throughout humanity that religion is clearly responsible for crimes against humanity, taking part in any religious activity should also be outlawed and made a criminal offence.
The world would be a much happier and peaceful place if religion ceased to exist. Although there are some decent religious believers and preachers, they are unwittingly spreading evil around our world, and that they should simply keep their beliefs and thoughts to themselves in the best interests of humanity, or suffer the consequences for their actions.
Have you ever considered that the world would be like Heaven if religion ceased to exist, but all the believers and preachers have turned the planet into Hell?

Any blind faith, or fanaticism can lead to war. Fanaticism about race as well as religion. War is spawned by hate caused by societal clashes (like race, religion, beliefs), or competition for resources. Ultimately, religion plays a good and bad role throughout history in this way. It's not necessarily the religion causing the war as much as it is the people using the religion to insight people to rise against the "other" and fight in a war. Something other than religion would be used to cause wars, other belief systems. Even if the Middle East had no religion, the fight would be about Western Capitalism or Western domination of the world market or whatever. Religion is incidental.

As the majority of participants in Yahoo! Answers are from the US, I'm sure you'll get some really rabid replies from the members of the religious right who love to spout nonsensical evangelism on this site.
Religion is fine if people keep it to themselves. Religions, by definition want to:
1. Attract new members.
2. Get rid of opposing faiths.
And that's where all the trouble starts.....

Religion is not the cause for wars. It is mearly the excuse for it. Religion is at its core good and peacefull. How exactly do you think that you developed morals. Do you think it is right for a man to go out and rape a 10 year old girl and then kill her? No... of course you dont because religion has taught that those are wrong and weather you agree with it or not those morals made there way to you through a society shaped by religion. And besides untill there are over a billion atheists with your point of view i wouldnt mess with religion especially with catholicism.

I completely agree. Relgion is bad and dangerous. Religion is people believing in a system of values so much that they will do anything to maintain and even enforce their beliefs on another. I think you are on to something. It amkes sense that the devil would want people fighting about their beliefs rather than actually engaging in a relationship with God. Very good insight into how the devil thinks, I applaud you.
I however choose to have a relationship with God. I believe God teaches me what He wants me to do through the Bible. And what He teaches me to do throuigh the Bible is to love others and help others get to have a relationship with Him too. Religions is very bad.

For the most part, I would agree with U. Religion fosters war, murder, competition, resentment, etc. But I don't believe people should be persecuted if their belief is genuine and isn't imposed on others.

Religion is just evil through and through. Just look at Yahoo answers to get an idea of the number of people brainwashed to the point of no return by religion.

Wow. You bring up an interesting point. A valid one, at that.
As one who knows that God lives, I still can appreciate your thoughtful wondering. Frankly, you are correct. But let's be careful not to lump all religions into one.
The true kingdom of God is in your heart.

You homosexuals and your anti-religion! Can't you see that it isn't religious people, but God Himself, who has forbidden homosexual activity? You're going to ban talk of religion?
What kind of stupidity will you people come up with next?
