i think i may have a mild case of an ingrown toenail.. like it rarely hurts me, im very active, i run track and it never hurts me then..the only times it hurts me is maybe a once a month. but around the sides of my toenail its really puffy and red.

should i get it checked by a doctor, or do you have any ideas of at home ways to help my problem??

trim the corners back a little. The front edge of the nail is forming a point and digging into the surrounding tissues. When you have an open wound on your feet, bacteria quickly like to move in. The puffieness your seeing is infection.

Try putting betadine on the affected areas 2-3 times a day. Cover it with abandage or Band-aid. Betadine is an over-the-counter antibiotic.

try cutting a small "u" shape in the center of your nail. The nail will grow to close the "u" and eliminating the ingrown nail. Your nail has to be trained to grow this way.

You need to get it checked, you can get an infection. If left alone, it may get so bad that you get gangrene and have to have your toe amputated...nobody wants that.

To ease the pain, try leaving your foot in warm salty water, or soak your toe in hydrogen peroxide.

You have a severe case of stink-foot, or more commonly know as 'toe-rot'. You should seek help from your local voodoo Dr. ASAP.
