When Dave Thomas originally started the restaurant, I think he made them square to emphasis the fact that they were made fresh, not frozen. At the time, that is. Originally, he also had much bigger, thicker french fries (I was sad when they caved in to the "McDonald's" style fry. Now the square burgers remain as a marketing gimmick.

I have noticed but probably wouldn't read too much into it. But, maybe it just makes the burgers taste better. Maybe it's a mental thing...you might just, deep inside, feel better after eating something square.

I saw this on the food channel. They were made square so that you weren't left with any part of the bun that was just bun. Way back when it made their burgers stick out from their competitors.

To be different. McDonalds and Burger King had round burgers and Dave Thomas wanted to be different.

Because it's easier to stack but the main reason is the save money on meat because you get less witha square patty.

when they first opened up dave thomas started off with square burgers to get everyones attention and they just havent changed it. its just who they are...they also sit there and cook the burgers on a stove themselves unlike BK or mcdonalds!! its what makes them great...also same shape as the cheese...that way you dont have cheese going off ur burger making it look tacky

It's obvious!
The hamburgers are SQUARE... because the measure of each side is equal.
