having the teeth cleaned by the vet helps immensely (personal experience here..) also there are products you can put in their water that also helps a lot. only give your dog greenies if your dog doesnt wolf treats and bones down, if so, have fun spending a lot of money getting the greenies removed from his intestines! (worked at the vet..) CET chews are supposed to help a lot too, but i havent personally used them. they have bones like greenies, and also have rawhides, and toothpaste AND the water additive. all available at your vet!

RE:
How to get rid of awful, nasty, smelly dog breath. Brushing is only temporary.?

Everything is temporary. You could brush the dog's teeth every day and get him greenies treats. They make dog breath go away. There are lots of breath fresheners on the market.

Not to scare you, but my big, old mastiff got really nasty, actually gross bad breath. Took him to the vet, and he had a tumor growing in mouth. Had it removed and biopsied, it's cancer. it's grown back to twice the size, and we're having it out again next Monday. I couldn't see it at first, so just check. Especially if the bad breath is new to your dog. Aside from actual dog breath that is.

You can never really truly get rid of dog breath. There are treats and food out there that will help somewhat with the smell.

Sometimes (ok, oftentimes) the bad breath isn't coming from the mouth itself, but from deep inside of the dog's body.

Much of it may have to do with what you are feeding the dog and you may want to check with your vet to see if they have any suggestions for better foods.

Love as always,

Sebastian

Give dog ments. Make sure they have dog bones or anything to chew on so they can clean their teeth. Any of these items can be found at Wal-Mart. Good Luck

I get my dogs bones that freshen their breath and clean their teeth. They love them, and they're not expensive, and because they're a bone, it lasts longer.

You might try mouth wash or breath mints, but if that doesn't work you're just going to have to go to the dentist.
