This is because I have never ever witnessed anybody to be helped by the non-existent things which dont even know that they dont exist at all coz they dont exist. For example your God is an extension of your imagination. How she would know that she existed even in your imagination. Hit your head into a wall. Maybe your brain will start functioning but be careful dont kill yourself. Life is a precious thing. May your imaginary God be squezed under the stone which she created only to lift

I'll give you my perspectives as an atheist.

I believe in the bible. It is a book, I've even seen a few of them. As for what it says, I think (actually I know) it has all been written by men. Some of it is history, some of it is story telling, some of it is advice. It has been embellished and shaped to fulfill the needs of people in power.

As for god, I was a believer as a child. It made the world seem right and organized. It made it seem like there was an overall purpose. But when I turned 17, I started to question what evidence there was for a higher power being. I questioned whether it made sense for there to be a god who was so insecure that we had to follow all his rules or end up suffering for eternity. I questioned whether I had to obey a church that raped it's children and protected those criminals regarding the way to live a good life.

And I realized that I only had to understand myself and my place amongst other men. That morality and decency is defined by how people work together.

The concept of god makes no sense to me. I see no evidence for it. I do not believe there is anything beyond the life we live. We live and eventually we die. I'm okay with that.

The reason people do not believe in the God of the Bible is either they are not one of God's elect and will never believe in the God of the Bible, even if someone from the dead came back and told them to or they are one of God;s elect but have not come to that realization as of today. At some point everyone of God's elect have they hearts opened by God and they are converted to the God of the Bible.

Religion had its purpose. It kept the mindless masses feeling informed and under control for a long time. With the rise of free exchange of information, needing to answer everything with "god did it" is a thing of the past. Also with powerful and efficient governments, the need to control the masses no longer falls on the church. You are a dieying breed my friend. Religion will be a novelty in 100 years... if it still exists at all.

I believe in Jesus and God, just not the Christian Jesus or God, religion is a business manufactured to reap copious amounts of money to support church hierarchy with lavish life styles in opulent mansions, I think that the writers of the “bible” invented a religion to control society, and I’m just flabbergasted when I see bible thumpers spewing quotes when there is so much concrete proof that fathers of the church have been duping us for nearly 2000 years, and I’m just disgusted with having ignorance shoved down my throat as “truth” I would never be arrogant enough to claim I know what Jesus or God thinks, I have to much respect for my faith

yoda's on point, but i still think there is a "central energy" keeping it all "in order" more or less. nevertheless, why not do a sort of "religions of the world "research project as any intelligent, independent thinker would, before you settle on one particular one? especially a fundamentalist version of one. if christianity appeals to you most, i would suggest reading: *gnosis of the cosmic christ* before you make a final decision in the area. no matter what, keeping an open mind and being tolerant of other views will help to place you in the upper 10% of the human race, from what i've experienced. good researching!

Because people are diverse and think differently. Why do some people have differing opinions on anything. There are many other explanations for life other then a God. People are raised differently, they have different levels of education and different levels of how they process what they do learn. They are from different cultures and have different ideas on what is most important in life.

It's asinine to believe in something that is inherently hypocritical and riddled with double standards. Why believe in something that contradicts itself? Christianity neutralizes itself because of all the contradiction. The bible is it's on base to neutralize acid and vise versa.

Because it's incredibly far-fetched, and a lot of unadmirable people are avid believers in the bible and god (Nazis, George Bush, etc). I'm agnostic, for good reason.

i think it's partly because they are so used to thinking that they are somehow "in control" that the idea that there may be something greater and more powerful scares the pants off them, and some are probably afraid they might have to account for the way they treat other people...which scares them even more...and some just plain don't want to give up their "lifestyle"
