Aspartame is an artificial sweetner in all 'diet or sugar free' products. It is full of toxins and poisons and should be avoided at all costs. It also goes by a number when you look at the ingredients of a product, I think it is 995 or 912. Something like that. I haven't read that it is directly related to cancer but if you consume enough diet or sugar free products you can become very sick over time.

I know this because I am type 2 diabetic and have researched this alot.

I would warn anyone eating/drinking these items to stop immediately.

After extensive reading, I think people who drink diet sodas are risking many things healthwise. I have a friend who drank several diet cokes per day. He was plagued by frequent bouts of diarrhea and developed kidney stones. The doctor told him that there were ingredients in the cokes that contributed to them. He has had his third lipotrIphy treatment (stone blasting) in less than one year. I think he would tell you, they aren't the best thing for you. Also, the aspartane in them is a chemical that our bodies cannot metabolize like natural foods. There have been serious reactions in some people, i.e. brain seizures, etc.

There has been talk for years and years about the artificial sweeteners possibly causing cancer. Saccharine was found to cause cancer. I don't think theres enough evidence to say the same about NutraSweet or splendra or sweet n low. I have drank diet pop for years and I'm still kicking

Aspartame is, by far, the most dangerous substance on the market that is added to foods. Aspartame accounts for over 75 percent of the adverse reactions to food additives reported to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Many of these reactions are very serious including seizures and death as recently disclosed in a February 1994 Department of Health and Human Services report.(1) A few of the 90 different documented symptoms listed in the report as being caused by aspartame include:
Headaches/migraines, dizziness, seizures, nausea, numbness, muscle spasms, weight gain, rashes, depression, fatigue, irritability, tachycardia, insomnia, vision problems, hearing loss, heart palpitations, breathing difficulties, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, loss of taste, tinnitus, vertigo, memory loss, and joint pain.

WANT SOME NOW!!!!????

I think that's the kind of crap started by the sugar growers. I drink about a gallon of artificially sweetened Coke and tea a day and I don't have cancer yet.

If you drank 2 gallons every day for 20 or so years, you might get cancer from it.

I hope not... I drink a ton of the stuff. Trying to cut back... not because of the fear of cancer, but because of the amount of sodium.
