All we do is throw frisbees, drink beer and eat burgers. Everybody is old as dirt. They all talk to each other like they're strangers.

I just let the wife go with the kids. I honestly want them to have fun but life is too short for me to have to put up with 8 hours of stinky, old people. Same with Holidays.

Does anybody else want to boycott family get togethers? Why do women organize these stupid events? Let's face it. we'd never hang with some folks if they were not related. So why do it?

I boycott all of my family stuff - especially when it is for the in-laws. I figure if I dont feel like seeing them on a regular basis, then why bother going for the "special" days either? And yes, they only drink and fight and watch tv. What is the point? It took them several years to get used to me not going, now they just expect that I wont be there. (Same with funerals, weddings, and graduations, too)

Today was my husband's family reunion (organized my his male cousin). I didn't go because most of those people I haven't seen since my wedding almost 5 years ago, but my husband and daughter did attend. When his family celebrates holidays I do attend because that is family that we see and talk to on a regular basis. I agree with you about not going because we would never hang around them, that is why I choose not to go. Next weekend we have a wedding that we will be attending because it is his nephew that is getting married and we are really close to that family.

As for my family, I don't go to anything. I have a birthday party for my daughter and everyone is invited to it. If they show up then fine, if not that is just one less person I have to clean up after.

Shame on you. You have a perfect opportunity to let your children interact with their relatives to be connected to the past. Thank goodness everybody is old otherwise all this would be lost. One day they will be able to tell their children about crazy old uncle _____ or loony aunt ________ who gave wet kisses. What is 8 hours out of your life to show your children their history? That their lives didn't start with you and your wife. It started even before those old, stinky people who are your relatives. You don't have to love them or want to be friends with them but you should honor them because without them their would be no you or your children. Suck it up and do it for your children.

I always stay away from the noodle salad the old aunt brings who has a house full of cats., and I really don't like when all the other old aunts kiss you with gobs of red lipstick on and everyone is walking around with these nasty lip prints on their cheeks.
