You can't put it in a closed container, because water expands when it freezes. Put it in a bowl, that way the curvature of the bowl would allow the water to force itself slightly outward as it freezes. Why would you put it in the freezer anyway? Don't want your dog to get hot, i guess.

Like some of the others mention, I have heard that you can take a milk carton or a 2 liter bottle and fill them about 3/4 full and freeze them.

If you're looking to chill your outdoor doggie's water you could fill a water bottle 3/4 and freeze it, then drop it into his bucket. Or there are "blue ice" packs that you can buy, intended to go into a cooler to keep beverages and foodstuffs chilled. They freeze and are sealed.

Any plastic container will do as long as you don't fill it all the way up. Water expands as it freezes so if the container is full it will burst.

How about a cool whip container? Need something bigger? Try a milk jug.

if your wanting to keep your dogs water cool on hot days. use the same ice packs in hard plastic that you use in coolers to keep your food and drinks cold at the beach. drop it in the dogs water and it will keep it cold.
