If you mean by 'magic' is a sleight of hand then it is merely that - a clever sleight of hand while misdirecting the audience - and as such so long as you are not using that for dishonest gain then i cant see how that works against being a christian.

i THINK much depends on where you get the knowledge from - if it is from preparing your props beforehand then how is that different than say cooking a lovely meal for others?

on the other hand if folks try and say they get their 'tricks' done with supernatural 'assistance' then that is the kind of 'magic' you need to steer well away from.

you could always introduce that idea in your patter at the end of your act to make sure that no one gets the idea that you have been anything but clever in your preparations if that bothers you

but personally when i see a magician it is apparent that it is the former not the latter - the latter tend to want pots of cash for their 'art' forms

Wow, are YOU getting too much into straining at gnats. I doubt God cares if you call a magician a magician or an illusionist. It is not the name, but the act that matters.

Sure, it is unfortunate that magic tricks and 'magik' get confused by the average person, but since 'magik' does not work, what's the big deal?

As for the 'deception is not of God' folk- does this mean you never watch TV or movies with special effects, or plays where actors act like people they are not? You have forsaken optical illusions and most kinds of jokes and humor? you have abstained from any form of deceptive advertising, etc.?

To decieve implies to try to trick you for reasons not in your best interest. Magicians try to entertain you for a minute.

Isn't it? Sorcery that is? Any kind of deception is telling a lie and as such is contrary to what God has said is good. Magic as well as sorcery and illusionist, do not belong in the Christian household or the church as a whole.

Magic-now days this spelling normally referes to the popular idea of an illusionist or trickster. Typically taking advantage people. Performing an act based upon deceit. This is commonly the more acceptable form of magic, and not really viewed as being evil.

Magick-This spelling referes to the initiate seeking to fullfill his potential, expand his mind, attain conversation with is true self, and live in balance with the world around him. This is typically viewed as evil by most Christians.

You see grass-hopper....Lies, Deceit and Trickery are good things. Balance, Harmony, and Knowledge will get you a one way ticket to hell. There was a time people were burned alive for practicing magick, but rewarded for practicing magic.

If somone believes it to be true, then it is wrong. As long as the people know that it is fake and is for entertainment, then it's okay. But that's my 2 cents.
