My Golden Retriever just won't stay off the couch right now because one of the cats is up on the back of it and the dog wants to play with her. Do you think dogs actually "think" that this is mean to have separate rules for her and the cats?

The dog and cats get along fine. The dog does have a dog bed. The reason we want the dog off the couch is because of her size and she sheds a lot more than the cats. The cats don't bounce all over the couch like the dog does.

Probably not, as there are already separate rules for her and the humans, and cats always act like they're above humans.

Your dog is trying to show dominance over your cat, not just playing with it.

Get an extra dog bed and place it near your couch. She will know this is her special place. She will learn the floor is where she belongs.

Get down on the floor and play with your dog, brush her, cuddle with her. Let it be a routine that she can count on and she will be a more content, satisfied dog. She will learn that staying on the floor or in her bed gets her the attention she needs from you. You are the alpha so you decide when you are going to give her this attention. Eventually she will accept that you and the cat have a higher place and that she is not allowed there.

Instead of yelling at her, teach her the down command. You will have a much more obedient dog if you have her do a down when she is out of control and demanding to be on the same level as you or the cat.

Yes the dog thinks that if you let the cats on the couch, it's ok to be on the couch. Train the dog to chase the cats off the couch. The dog will think that it is being a good dog for its human and the cats will blame the dog.

Yes, all animals should be treated the same way. Just like we should all be treated with respect, and not that some of us get higher respect. Just make sure they both get treated equally. And try to get the dog and the cat to get along... you need two people for this.. make one person hold the dog, and one person holdin the cat. Pull the dog and the cat together, but with about 1 or 2 feet between them. Do it untill you know its done for today. Try to do it everyday so that they will get more used to each other...

Good Luck!

It relies upon on each man or woman city. in the event that they actually have a city ordinance concerning to the form of animal you may very own. My city you may very own as much as 4 canines and or cats. The neighboring city you may very own as much as two canines and 2 cats won't be able to have 3 canines and a million cat only 2 & 2 In California you will possibly have as much as 7 small canines or 5 super canines. so it relies upon Then there are some aspects that don't have an ordinance. and in specific situations those human beings develop into "animal creditors" they many times finally end up with many many animals they are able to no longer correct guard.

dogs are alot smarter than most give them credit for. they will feel left out and jealous. she could wind up resenting you and it will also make the dog become enemies with the cat after time. she will think you are being mean to her and will act out on it after awhile. cats go where they want to. if she isn't allowed on the couch, then you must train the cat to stay off of it and it can be done. animals need equal love and treatment. if one gets more than the other, they will wind up resenting each other and start fighting.

Well I think so..why can't the dog be up there but she gets to?They're both longhaired right? So other than te dog jumping on the couch to play with the cat I think it's unfair.

But I don't think the dog compares itself to the cat, and doesn't really think that you are treating the cat better..but who knows.

Actually I don't like cats too much, but maybe you should have th e cats share the bed, or no bed at all. This should solve your problem, because Dogs and cats rule, rats, and monkeys drool!

Your dog will jealous of the cat therefore he/she will take revenge on the cat sooner or later...
On the other hand, let your dog knows you still care for him/her by playing and petting him/her more often.

Dogscan become jealous, just like humans. In fact, some people claim that dogs can be more human than real humans.
