Perhaps as you get older you notice it more. Kids are influenced considerably by their peers and some would argue that this influence is greater at some stages of development than the influence of parents. I don't believe in any one way to raise children and I don't think that the guidebook we've all been hearing about has yet to be written. Children throughout history have rebelled against their elders, sometimes this can be healthy for society at large. I'm sure the generation before you had the same complaint, and the generation before them, and so on. Try patience and open dialog, lead by example.

Because the parents do not exercise discipline during their childrens formative years.
Also this generation has not earned the respect that previous generations did via their strong actions and good examples.
Kids need to be guided and nurtured not bought off with TV and video games for sake of a bit of peace and quiet after work.
Its a long hard road but worthwhile in the end, kids will revolt and they will test their elders patience, but one day they too will be asking this self same question about their kids.

Because children are very vulnerable and easily influenced. They are exposed to too much bad influence via the media(tv, music), and most parents still use the tv as a babysitter. Also, they want to fit into popular groups---and those with the biggest mouths get popular.

In addition to that, it is hard to have enough time for children nowadays, with both parents working, some of them even working 2 jobs.
Furthermore, there is a lot of hipocrisy out there: parents do tell their children to behave and smack them for misbehaving, but they do not behave themselves---children do copy their parent's behavior and they are not stupid---they see what's going on and develop their own attitude about this. It is therefore, our fault that kids do not respect their elder no longer

Parents today don't respect older people so they never teach their children. It's very sad because the kids and the seniors could teach each other so much.

its not so much in haveing respect and its not always the parents fault. i mean you take us in england we cant smack our kids because we can go to prison. so the system makes it easier for the kids of today to get away with stuff because we are limited in our disiplin and how far we can go. even in our schools there is no disiplin any more. when i was at school we used to get caned n stuff like that but now its too easy.

I raised kids in the 70's. We believed in "natural." We let them grow up naturally, so they would be what nature had intended. And then they grew up and knew nothing about raising kids because they had not been raised . NOW their kids are grown and society is reaping what we have sown. We were dead wrong!

So blame it on the grandparents, who now wonder why they get no respect.

Sorry, world. Our bad.

Parents are too busy to teach their kids anything. Only another excuse in not accepting responsibilities for their kids. We have time to make babies but not to raise them. It's not as much fun !

No home training. Parents do not make them be respectful to them, non the least to others.
