Rhubarb is extremely sour, not bitter. It was once so popular as a pie ingredient that it was also called pieplant, back in the Little House on the Prairie days. Fresh rhubarb is highly seasonal and may be hard to find, but you can usually buy frozen rhubarb, which works just as well for most recipes.
If I were you, I would call around to other supermarkets to see if they had it, rather than driving to all of them. Frozen will be much easier to find than fresh, and it may even be available year round, which fresh rhubarb almost never is.
It seems a lot of people think rhubarb is so sour on its own that it needs to be mellowed with something, so you will often see recipes for strawberry-rhubarb pie or [other ingredient]-rhubarb pie. I like sour things, and (straight) rhubarb is my favorite pie. Add more sugar to your recipe next time if you think it turns out too tart.
Rhubarb may have originally come from China, but it will grow like a weed in the US, if you let it.

Rhubarb is a plant name for the many different species of Rheum, growing in the wild in the mountains of the Western and North-western provinces of China. Chinese use it not only in cooking but in herbal medicines as well. It is a perennial plant (the kind that grows from year to year) that is often commonly mistaken to be a fruit but rhubarb is actually a close relative of garden sorrel, and is therefore a member of the vegetable family.
They are commonly found in supermarkets. Fresh rhubarb is available from early winter through early summer.

Rhubarb looks like celery, but it is red with green mixed into it. It is very bitter until you cook it, and most people use it as a dessert. (Like in a pie).... It isn't one of your most popular foods, so it might not be overflowing in your supermarket, but if you look around in several stores, you should be able to find it....

Most people grow it in their back yard or you can get it at farmers' market. It is usually only available until late spring (before the stalks get to woody).
I love fresh rhubarb crisp fresh out of the oven, with whipped cream on top.

My grandma used to make strawberry/rhubarb pie. I hated the taste of it.

It should be in the produce section of the market, if in season. It's basically a red root, with which a pie filling can be made. It's red, it's bigger than celery.

I've always eaten it stewed. It looks kinda like celery stalks but red. You slice it in 1" chunks and slow cook it with sugar. It's really good.
