pretty much any current operating system will work Microsoft Windows XP will work just fine if you like that. )

Not exactly. I am under 18 and I'm good at computers. Win media center will make the computer slow. Look at all of the operating system and look for stuff at or under a 30gig hard drive
384MB
750MHz .
Under for your computer to have the laptop really fast. On is taking a risk of having the computer running really slow.

Windows XP would not be a good choice as it will sqeeze out the PC resources.
Windows 98 is an obsolete one

You should go for Win2000 pro as it does not need huge resources and it will work faster that any other OS

Your system is very low on resources in to days computer age.
Your choices are very limited. Windows XP will load and run but not much more than that.
Linux may be a better choice.
The best thing is to upgrade to a new system.

You could get ubuntu linux. See ubuntu.org. It's free and works pretty well on that type of configuration, althought the more ram you have the better it will run (same for XP).

You are low on both speed and memory for XP. For diety's sake do not even touch Vista.

Windows 2000 or Linux would be your best bets.
