You will adjust eventually, when your sleep pattern shifts, but for the long haul, get off of 3rd shift. It will turn you into a zombie and it's been proven unhealthy.

Find a way to spend some time outside in the sun every day--that can help the sadness. I worked 3rd shift for almost three years; resetting your sleep schedule is difficult, and can cause health and emotional problems. Decide whether you want to sleep in the morning or afternoon, and stick to the schedule.
Good luck.

Sounds like you're not getting enough sleep. It tough to work midnights and sleep during the day. Try to set a schedule so that you are sleeping at the same time every day. Use room darkening shades. And some kind of white noise helps to drown out outside noises. (one of those noise machines or even a fan would work) It will take a while, but you will get used to it.

It can take a couple of months to adjust to being a night worker. It's even harder if they swing your shifts back and forth. Some people are made for night work and are more active after the sun sets...sleep all day.

this may not be your ideal shift.. but if you must keep the job, the days become better as time passes but when it comes to winter, that is just a bad time to work third shift because it seems like its always dark. you may be a person who needs sunlight to keep your body healthy.

your body and mind has to get used to the change!! Try putting a blanket over the windows, turn your phone off,and get rest in the afternoon. I went through the same thing, I found when i darkened the room I could sleep, until the phone would wake me up,so i turned it off. Good luck to you!

i have a sleep disorder and in researching mine, i might be able to help.
if you have recently switched shifts, thats a huge indicator. our brains are made to have regular sleep patterns and when you change that, everything in your life seems to change.
im gonna leave a couple of links that have helped me, hope they help you:)
