There is a benefit to lying sometimes and I have proof.
My ex-wife asked me a question and I told her the truth. We divorced soon after that. I should have lied.
She bought a new pair of jeans. She was looking at herself in the mirror while wearing the new pants. She asked, " do these pants make me look fat?"
I answered, " No. It's your a-s-s that does that."

Depends on the lie. A little white lie to prevent hurt would be a benefit. The whole truth and nothing but the truth wouldnt get us very far for long. A big fat lie though is of no benefit, the truth will come out eventually, whether today, tomorrow, next year or ten years, but it will rear its head one day!

Lying is in everyone's nature, including animals, and everything else. If an animal breaks something like a vase, and he/she knows that they are going to receive punishment for it, don't you think that the animal would lie to you if humans could understand what they were saying just to avoid getting into trouble? It's the same way with humans. We all have the capabilities to lie, its just that some of us take it to the extreme when doing it. They go overboard. It's ok to embellish a little when telling a story or a joke, or even something that someone has told you, however, it it NOT ok to lie when it becomes harmful or hurtful to someone, or even yourself. Many people have become hurt by others telling lies. Lying can also become addictive too.

I don't' see any reason to lie if there's no benefit... I also feel that lieing because it could benefit you will more than likely blow up in your face... one lie always leads to another, and eventually you'll never remember everything that you should in order to NOT get caught. It's just a bomb waiting to explode.... Not worth it. Honesty is the best policy.

Humans lie in the hope of dissuading guilt and avoiding punishment. The fact that it rarely works doesn't seem to matter when one is desperate and can't see any other way out.

People lie, when there is no benefit because of one reason: they think it enhances their popularity.

Who's "we?" I guess there might be some people who lie just for the fun of it, but I don't hang around with people like that. Are there people like that?

When we are born, we are taught to use little lies to keep ourselves clean (small/white lies), but by time, the world media teaches us how to lie with perfection, and to make a living out of it.
