That depends on your pre-pregnancy weight. Usually the less you weigh the more the doctor will expect you to gain. If you're a larger woman to begin with, he may not want you to gain as much. I'm 4.5 months pregnant and haven't gained anything.
Just remember, don't try to lose weight while you're pregnant. But try to eat very healthy, and remember ... the more weight you gain, the more you'll have to lose!
Good luck!

The total amount of weight that the average pregnant women gains is 25-30 pounds in the entire pregnancy.
Watch your carbs. Eat carrots instead of chips. Don't eat fast food - even a McDonald's salad, after all the dressing, is really loaded in calories.
Your doctor should be keeping tabs on your weight. Talk to your OB on your next visit. Doc may recommend a nutritionalist who'll look over your diet, and see what you're doing wrong.
Also, make sure you're checking up on your water intake. Drink at least 8 - 8oz glasses of water a day.
Summer is hot, and can be uncomfortable when you're pregnant - but it's also the best time to eat healthy. Fresh fruit & veggies are abundantly cheap, and water is very easy to drink when it's cold & refreshing!
It's not how much you eat, it's what you eat. You should continue to eat small meals, 6 times a day. But, make them healthy meals & snacks. Lean cooked meats, veggies, fruits, whole grain, cheese - make a great diet.
Also, I suggest picking up swimming. The water gives great support for baby, and is rated the best exercise for pregnant women.

It depends on how much you weighed before you were pregnant.. I only weighed 125 lbs and the doctor told me that I had to and prob would gain more than women who are heavier then me. I gained a lot of weight because I was always the type that could eat and eat and not really have to worry about weight gain.. I had my child and the weight just slowly came off.. I wouldn't go over board just try to eat healthy for you and the baby.. but don't worry your providing a healthy body for your baby to grow in for the next couple months.. your doctor checks your weight gain everytime you go so if he was concerned he would say something..

I've been told that women tend to gain more weight with their first pregnancy...I wouldn't worry about it. I gained almost 50 with my first baby, so to me 18 pounds sounds pretty good for 5.5 months. I don't think there is a way to stop gaining weight while you are pregnant --- you have to remember that you are retaining water too...that has a lot to do with the weight gain.

If you started at a normal weight, your weight gain should be between 25-35 lbs. Seems like you are right on target to fall in that range. Don't worry about gaining weight. What is important is focusing on having a healthy baby. As they say, the end justifies the means.
Also, remember that all the weight you gain is not fat. The baby amniotic fluid, increase in blood supply, increase in breast size, etc. accounts for close to 20 lbs alone. We gain some weight that is called maternal stores that is basically temporary fat we store for energy.
Best of luck!

that's actually decent weight gain.
I just delivered a newborn last week, I was 130 pounds pre-pregnancy. My last weigh in before delivery was 178. I only remember throwing up maybe twice through the whole time.
The best person to ask would be your doctor.
