In my opinion, suicide is the most cowardly thing a person can ever do! They are taking the easy way out, without caring about the family and friends they leave behind to grieve!

The Bible views suicide as 'equal to murder and blasphemy to God!

However, the Bible teaches that from the moment a person truly believes in Christ, he or she is eternally secure (John 3:16). According to the Bible, Christians can know beyond any doubt that they possess eternal life no matter what happens. “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God” (1 John 5:13).

Nothing can separate a Christian from God’s love! “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39). If no “created thing” can separate a Christian from God’s love, and even a Christian who commits suicide is a “created thing,” then not even suicide can separate him from God’s love. Jesus died for all of our sins...and if a true Christian were to, in a time of spiritual attack and weakness, commit suicide - that would be a sin that Jesus died for.

This is not to say that suicide is not a serious sin against God. According to the Bible, suicide is murder, it is always wrong. I would have serious doubts about the genuineness of faith of anyone who claimed to be a Christian yet committed suicide. There is no circumstance that can justify someone, especially a Christian, taking his or her own life. Christians are called to live their lives for God – the decision on when to die is God’s and God’s alone.

I think you are from somewhere other than the US. The question is not worded quite right but that is okay. Suicide is not "forbidden"- it is just something that happens to people who get extremely depressed (a lot of time because of mental illness) and you say "why suicide rates are not very high?' Sadly, suicide rates ARE HIGH.

I would venture to say that suicide rates aren't very high because most people, no matter how depressed they are, ultimately WANT to live.

I believe suicide is insane, and those who commit it lack the coping resources that the majority of the population have, and they have a chemical imbalance.

I can't speak for Christianity because I'm not bible literate....but I always thought that religion viewed suicide as a sin. (then again can't sins be forgiven)? I don't know...

Suicide is forbidden by Christianity. I cannot quote you chapter and verse, but I know that suicides could not be buried on "consecrated (holy) ground" in many Christian countries, in the past.

I just asked my husband. One of the 10 Commandments is "Thou shalt not kill." It cannot be much more forbidden than that.

Actually suicide is technically killing someone else because really you, did not make yourself, someone else did and by suiciding you are killing a sole. And anyways, who gave you the idea that the most popular religion is Christianity? Wouldn't it be Buddahism since there's way more Asians than there are any other ethics?

I have seen a few stupid answers. Not everyone that commits suicide is crazy first of all. Second of all to the people calling it cowardly or stupid who are you to judge? You haven't lived the lives these people have lived. You haven't felt the pain they felt. And to the woman who said if you believe in Jesus then you go to heavan no matter what, you're an idiot

Isn't that a good thing? Just because religion doesn't openly forbid doesn't mean it supports it, by the way! And what about Thou shall not kill? Hmm?

one of the 10 commandants that God gave Moses : is that you shall not kill, to me that means others and yourself. Also you can kill by the words that flow from your mouth, things that you write, and your actions.
