Jesus used parables of real life to illustrate spiritual life. He cursed the tree because it didn't produce fruit, and it died. Christians are supposed to pruduce the fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. If we don't, we are regressing or back-sliding and we are in danger of dying spiritually. It was an illustration.

Most scholars beleive that this story is an allegory. The barren fig tree is symbolic of the Temple, which was in Jesus' view had become a legalistic entity and not bearing fruits of true religion. As such it is also prophetic in that the Temple did come to be destroyed in 70 AD.

which version of the story do you want me to debunk, as they are different in the 3 gospels where this myth appears, and each has it own unique problems, if "true"
And what kind of a lameass "miracle" was that anyway? Not really up there with walking on water, or loaves and fishes is it? Withering a tree??? Give me a break. Thats the best thing he could come up with to prove he was the son of god, the christ, the creator of the universe, omniscient, omnipotent, the alpha and omega,......so he withers a tree....not really very impressive, is it?

He had already given them the Parable of the 3 slaves given money and the one slave invested it and made money, the 2nd slave made a little money and the 3rd slave buried his for safe keeping. While the 1st and 2nd slaves were rewarded, the 3rd slave was punished because he was afraid to go out and "harvest" for his master any reward.

The same for the tree. Being a fruit tree, it should have "brought forth fruit according to its seasons" but didn't so was punished, much as the slave was. As the bible says, "faith without WORKS is dead." So you need to go out and preach the good news of the kingdom of God. Not just sit in church a few days a week.

The creator of the universe didn't know when figs were in season!
Not very bright for an all knowing omnipotent omniscient being.

and withering the tree so the owner never got figs next season, that isn't very gracious or loving ... is it?

Jesus is a joke.

when Jesus destroyed the fig tree he was making an example of it. a tree that can not produce good fruit is not worthy of being alive. same as a person who can not be good is not worthy of living.

One of the few examples when J. C. got mad. It shows he was not perfect, and he took it on the tree, some times you get really mad when you are hungry. Another occasion was in the temple,

I think it wasn't about the tree, but about demonstrating a lesson or parable to His disciples.

Yeah, because it's something they couldn't do. Jesus was giving a sort of sign. As in, don't be unprofitable.
