Alright I am an african american female and I often hear people say that you shouldn't use too much heat on your hair..i use a flat iron and it seems that the only way my hair will look good is if i straighten it ALOT! So my question is how can I better my hair without using sooo much heat....by the way my hair is very very thick!

You can try a 'wet to straight' hair straightener. It doesn't damage your hair as badly, because it uses the steam from your wet hair being exposed to the heat to help straighten and keep it moisturized.

You can also try Pantene's Deep Conditioner every couple of days or a moisturizing mask for your hair.

I have also heard having your hair chemically straightened is better than daily exposure to heat.

I have this stuff by Redken called 01 Outshine. It is an "anti-frizz polishing milk". My hair stylist said to use it when straightening my hair so my hair wouldn't burn or get too much heat. It works great actually! Redken hair products are great.. look into them.

Try spreading a thin layer of oil on your hair before you straighten it. It straightens just the same, but it prevents it from burning your hair.
