My dog has a big problem with biting people. He is very grumpy and if you go near him or touch him when he doesn't want to be, he will snap or bite you. He is only 2 years old, and we have trained him not to bite. I'am just worried that he might bite a child that tries to pet him. Nothing is working!! Any suggestions??

my dog grew out snapping at people when he was 3 years old. When ever he did act mean, i yelled at him and put him in time out (his crate) for 1 hour. It worked well for him.

What type of dog is this? Some dogs are more prone to biting than others.
I have a flat coat retriever who is 5. We have 18 month old twins. She was fine with the boys until they started to walk. We keep her away from them because if they go near her (trying to touch her or bothering her when sleeping), she will growl or snip at them. Obviously, this is not acceptable and we are working with her, but in the meantime, we keep her away from the babies.

You should go to your vets and ask for the dog to be referred to an animal behaviourist because this type of behaviour not only leaves you open to law suits but is highly dangerous. I don't know whether you properly trained the dog or not but he does need some intensive retraining strategies to stop this going on before he bites some poor child.

If you trained him not to bite, why is he biting???????
You either have to get a professional trainer, or have the dog euthanized, or work with a vet to see if there is a medical problem with the dog.
Do not dump the dog at a shelter where someone else may end up with this dog!!!!!!

Oh boy do you have a problem. Try watching the dog whisperer on the National Geographic Channel. You can find information on the show times on the NGC's web site. Good luck

Find a trainer who can help you. If your dog bites people, you could end up with a lawsuit and/or putting the dog down.

Is he sick? Has he been injured and you don't know about it? Are his rabies shots up to date? Is he suffering from the summer temperatures? Has he been teased or tormented by another to make him "mean"?

Any personality changes in a pet usually means something is seriously wrong so I'd take him to the vet right away before somebody gets hurt or worse.

Put him on a long leash...when he starts to bite give him a collor correction [pulling his collor] dont worry you arnt hurting him. After a while he should be able to put it together that when he bites he gets a correction. Dont say anything when you give the correction.

some dogs when the get older they have some medical problems that will cause them to snap at people when they get to close. has the dog ever been missed treated by anyone. that could be another cause.

I wouldn't own a dog that bites as it leaves you open to a lawsuit if someone is bitten by him.
