I'm glad to hear of all these problems with the lovable Pug; you've saved me a lot of grief, time and money. I was thinking of getting a Pug.

Previously, we had an Australian shepherd, and he must have been allergic to just about everything. It apparently wasn't that way when we first got him as a one-year-old, but by the time he was 7 his allergies were so bad that he had trouble breathing, wouldn't eat and was loosing weight badly. The vet ran a standard battery of tests and poor Guy was allergic to beef, pork, most vegetables, and to numerous allergens including grass, plain old yard grass. We took him for allergy shots every month and fed him a special recipe of lamb and rice chow, which he liked well enough. There were no home remedies offered, and none that I know of for most allergies.

i have 2 pugs and during the summer and spring they have bad allergies. If you keep the wrinkle above there nose clean it will help the runny nose. Alot of pugs get hotspots to with allergies . If they get them, there is a powder called neoprodef, it works wonders on hotspots.

I think the vet should have given you some treatment options!!!!! There are really no home remedies for allergies, unless it is the food or something you can remove from the environment. Ask the vet if there is a medication you can give and what the dosage is. Benedryl is often given, but I have not seen much imporvement!!!!!

be prepared for alot more problems. pugs due to their faces and nises pushed in like a truck smacked them, constantly have breathing problems, allergies, sicknesses all the time. my step mother had one and the dog was always sick and had breathing trouble. dust, dander, smoke and many other things makes their breathing harder.
