In the spirit of this question, when a Christian sins, does it hurt Jesus. When I, an atheist sin, does it hurt Jesus. Does Jesus pay the penalty for my sin in Hell and on the Cross

Psalms 53:3 "...there is no one who does good, not even one."

Jesus is in Hell?..

Jesus has already paid the penalty, and nothing can physically hurt him now. I believe that it does pain him to see sin because he hates sin and loves all his children, even atheists.

Christians sin because we are sinful children. We sin for many of the same reasons that a child will do something he knows is wrong. Maybe we think it will feel good or get us attention. Maybe we do not know we are sinning until after the fact.

Yes, it hurts Jesus, though not physically.

Because they are human and no one could possibly be perfect enough to be able to follow every dictate of the christian religion to the letter. Human beings are imperfect. As for whether anyone sinning hurts Jesus of Nazareth, I have no clue but then I don't think he is the son of a deity either so I don't see how anyone's sinning could hurt him.

Why is it that everyone thinks you have been suspended again? :)

Anyway... the idea is that yes, everything anyone ever did that was a sin, he felt and paid for, which if it were true would definitely be the ultimate altruism. No... actually, the ultimate altruism would be if someone volunteered to go to hell in the place of everyone else... now that would be something!

I have no theology degree, but I'm going to pass along what I've heard a well studied friend of mine say on that subject.

Christ took all the pain of all sin from the past and future on the cross. It hurt based on the biblical depiction of that event becuase he was a man partly.

Jesus, in his present state, cannot feel physical pain. But he does feel the pain of it in other ways. The same way a mother may be hurt if a child is torturing himself, Jesus and God can be hurt to. But ultimately, every sin hurts them, but the sinner ends up paying the price in the end. They die.

Sin is separation from purpose. In your body, if something is cut off, or bruised, the mind feels the pain. Just like the ear/mind hears the sound. In the body of Christ, pain of seperation is felt in that mind (Jesus) of that body (church). The Holy Spirit is like the body/mind connection between the church, and God

Look at someone who is in pain. The Holy Spirit is the connection that allows us to BELIEVE their pain. Sympathy, empathy, who knows? You wouldn't feel even a twinge of remorse without the Holy Spirit that connects many humans.

I agree with Stephen, but would like to add that it is also a mental/spirital pain. Like when your child does something wrong (like break a window on purpose), it hurts you to think what this kind of actions will lead to in the future. Jesus of course knows the future, but it still bothers Him when we willfully sin.

A few years back, Ray Boltz, a Christian musician, recorded a song called, "Does He still feel the nails?" And it goes on with "...every time I fail?"

Personally, that thought alone makes me cringe every time I sin. I am sure that the memory of His suffering is quite real to Him, and whenever we (including you, Jim) sin against Him, it's like spitting in His face. We really don't appreciate truly what He did for us. And it's sad.

Whenever anyone sins, it physically hurts Jesus in the sense that He bore our sins during His passion and death. This is as simple as I can state it without going into some theological dissertation.
