My friends fiance decided to fix the CD drive and somehow I think he got to the command promt and typed something and now when you turn it on it loads and stops at the log in screen only no accounts on it just says Windows XP like windows XP is the user name and you cannot click on it.
-I tried safe mode same ending
-debugging mode same
-last config same
-even tried safe mode with networking even though i knew it wouldnt do any thing but just for shits and giggles and the same

how do i fix it?

press ctrl-alt-del when it is at that blank screen and it should bring up a login screen from the old nt version. You'll have to put in your user name and password yourself. If you can't get that login screen, you'll have to take your computer out for service because they can network boot it and save your files and then reformat your hard drive for you.

It doesn't sound as if you would know enough to use the Repair Console - you have to know how to find the settings that might be causing the trouble, and how to change them, and there are too many possibilities to walk you through here.

So the only thing left you can do is try a full re-installation, and hope that helps. Boot from your Windows XP CD and follow the prompts. You may lose some or all of the files doing that, unfortunately.

Your friend's fiance obviously doesn't know as much about computers as he thinks he does. Don't let him near yours any more...

Just Go to help and support center and Click Performance and maintenance than click 'SYSTEM RESTORING THEN SAY THAT ON WHICH DATE U WANT TO RESTORE THE PC

reload the drivers and the restore cd's from the beginning

could restore to earlier date before he work on it
