YHWH is the ancient Hebrew name for God. It is supposed to be God's special reverent name, so it was not used often.

I do have knowledge of how this name existed in other cultures prior to the Israelite adoption of Yahwism as their monotheistic religion.

So, while I can trace the history of where the name YHWH came from, this does not mean I cannot appreciate the understandings that are presented in the Old Testament, which is the story of one nation's encounter with God.

For me it is possible to have an academic understanding of the history of religion and at the same time maintain personal faith.

Well people would have to be able to use their intelligence to research the origins of that name... No one is willing to extend themselves that much these days to find out anything. The era of the great philosophers and thinkers is dead... Now a day's people would just rather cling onto the first thing (usually the easiest thing) to believe so as not to upset their time at the gym or on the phone discussing nonsense to no one... Or even better, they would rather spend their time arguing a point that cannot be proved either way until they die... Bashing everyone who disagrees with them and totally disrespecting the personal walk and life of another human being.

It is what is wrong with the world today... a total and complete lack of the very evolution they claim to know so much about either for or against.

Do you have a clue? People are still uncertain what vowels are missing and where they may have gone in the word.
