Legally, your vet needs to offer an option for emergency care when he is closed. You may have to drive to the next town to find an emergency vet for the weekend. Do you live near a University that has a vet school? They have emergency care. Start calling everyone in the yellow pages! Good luck! :)

Most vets have an emergency number you can call or even an answering service that will get ahold of them in case of an emergency. If it is something that can wait til the vet is open then I'd suggest waiting as after hours and emergency care are very expensive. If it can't wait then start calling until you find a vet that has an emergency contact number and call them to explain what is wrong and let them make the call as to what you should do. I had to do this with the small dog I have now as he stopped eating and drinking on a Saturday after the vets was closed and it cost me $300 to have him vetted and given an IV but he was worth it to me. Don't know what is wrong with your dog or if you just were curious to know if you'd ever need them after hours but I hope this helps and hope your dog is okay.

If there is a clinic perhaps a doctor will help you. I don't know where you live, but the next large town may have an emergency or after hours vet, most do...there are always emergencies. Look in the white pages, most vets have listed phone numbers. Call the vet's number to see if there is emergency info on the answering machine's greeting. Most do that too. Good luck, honey. I have been there. But then my ex was a vet....Nana

Vets DO NOT need to have an emergency practice...most big cities will have 1 or 2 in the area run by all the local vets. They are usually open from around 6pm to 8am (basicly when everyone else is closed). If your out in the middle of the country your best bet is to drive to the closest emergency Vet or check with your local vet if they have an emergency policy.

What do you mean that no vets are open around you... Check the yellow pages- look under "Veterinarian"
In the meantime- what's wrong with your dog that he needs a vet?... Just curious...
K- you just sent me an email- "my do got scrached in the eye and the good eye is rolling in to the back of its head so all you can see is white" Look in the yellow pages, and call the "Emergency Number".... ASAP, RIGHT NOW!!!!

Here is a link. http://www.apapets.com/vetfinder1.htm
It is a vet finder.
I am not going to give you a very long answer, since I think there is no need for one.
I hope this helps.
