Could we possibly do something that hurt the animal less? Or does it take too much time? <--(Verbal Irony/ sarcasm)

More humane? Not sure I understand your question? The most humane way is to have a vet euthanize the dog with a painless injection that hurts no more than drawing blood for a heartworm test. It is a LOT more humane than watching a dog with cancer waste away because he can't eat, or a dog with hip dysplasia try to hop across the room in agony, or an incontinent dog lying in its own mess with skin lesions from its feces and urine. It is the most humane option when the poor animal has no quality of life and no good days. I wish they'd do the same for people.

This is the most humane way I have seen. I was a euthansia technician for 5+ years - when a dog has been hit by a car and there is nothing that can be done - trust me, it is humane. The dog is out and asleep before you are done injecting the solution - by the time the heart and breathing stop - the animal is in a surgical plane of anesthesia (i.e. can feel no pain, not struggling to breathe, etc.) Death occurs very peacefully and very rapidly with an i.v. injection.

I do not know where you are getting the idea that it hurts the animal...it is so fast...if you have ever had surgery - it is like that - you drift off before ever knowing what happened. Basically, euthanasia solution is an overdose of sodium pentobarbitol (and if you know anything about 'barbituates' - i.e. painkillers...'barbitol'). It is not inhumane or painful.

If the poeple know what they are doing, it is very peaceful - especially when there is not another alternative...if people would stop making so many animals by allowing there animals to breed, it would happen far less!

What do you think would be better???????

We use Beauthasia in our clinics...it basicly acts like a sedative in that it slows the heart and they fall asleep. Eventually the heart stops. The animal feels nothing except as if he was being sedated.

They put the dogs a sleep before they put them a sleep. I watch it happen to mine and Ihave worked for a vet and never saw one dog put down without steps taken to make sure there is nu suffering. I you have seen it done differently then you need to report the vet to the ASPCA.

If they just go to sleep how can anything else be more humane?

The more humane, the better, if it works.
